Teeth falling out in my dream
    #11285780 - 10/20/09 07:04 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

I had to wake up and touch them to make sure they were still there.  I had this dream where my teeth were just falling out.  For no reason, and it didn't bother me during the dream really.  I don't remember what i was doing, or why, all i remember is my teeth falling out.  Becoming loose and then wiggling them with my tongue and they would just fall out in my mouth.  It felt so real because it felt EXACTLY like it did when i was kid and lost a tooth and the tooth's texture in my mouth before spitting into my hand.  It felt the EXACT same.  Weirdness.

I almost always have these crazy strange dreams when i wake up around 9 or 10am and then go back to sleep for only a half our to an hour.  But during that time i have wild dreams.

I have no idea what to think:shrug:

My dreams are so chaotic, that making sense of them seems to difficult for me to make an accurate assertion or interpretation of what is going on.  Does the brain use dreams as metaphors for describing unconscious wishes, desires or thoughts?  I have no idea:lol:

It's always about the self. Characters/Situations in your dreams are always aspects of the self.

Far out I had the same dream last night, it was my left front tooth, it wouldn't stop bleeding there was blood everywhere, I was so glad to wake up.

Supposedly, a dream of loosing teeth means someone you know will soon die but I think that's BS.

I think it's just a basic common human fear that manifests itself through dreams. I had a series of dreams in which I was losing my teeth and I know how crazily real it felt, but this is only because we already know how it feels to lose teeth so our imagination can take it even further.

Agreed with mushroomtrip. I think it's your subconscious warning you to take  better care of the teeth. Fluoride destroys the protective layers on your teeth, which results in people losing their teeth when they get old. People in poor countries where they don't use toothpaste do not lose their teeth when they get old, my grandparents in belgium lose all their teeth but my grandparents in morocco keep all their teeth eventho my grandfather was older than 100 years .. check out all those skeletons, they all keep their teeth.

So why do we lose our teeth if we take such a good care of them, and why do wild animals and prehistoric people who don't care for their teeth keep them? To me it seems brushing your teeth has an opposite effect... or our food must be really really harmful to the teeth but I doubt that, when you drink coca cola you can feel it biting away at your teeth tho, when you put a piece of meat in coca cola is dissapears completey after a while.

Or maybe food and fluoride have nothing to do with it and it's simply the electromagnetic radiation that is causing our teeth to falll out as recent scientific experiments have been able to REGROW fallen out teeth by radiating UV light.

This used to happen to me quite a lot, no so much anymore, though; I haven't experienced this since either my early high school years or later middle school years, but I remember that it used to sort of scare me! :awedrugs:

Have you ever had braces or dental work, Cog?

I had braces for years, and often have teeth dreams where my teeth get out of alignment and I can physically push them around with my hands.  Every now and then I lose teeth in my dreams, but I'm more likely to lose my penis these days.

It's probably, as MT said, just a fear.  Dreams rarely seem to be obscurely metaphorical for me, they tend to give a different situation, often an extreme case, of a certain fear.

One interpretation could be the loss of something permanent. What are teeth to us? On the one hand tools which allow us to eat, our livelihood. On the other hand, a symbol of aesthetics. Doesn't the ego treasure our self image, our smiles?

Wow.  I had a dream like this too.  But it was a bit different in that  my jaw was moved as far over as possible, and then I had bitten down - and it was LOCKED.  My teeth were catching against each other in this position, trying to move back, AND I COULD FEEL IT.  It's happened during a few dreams I've had... So messed up!  I don't like teethmares.

I have a friend whose sister told us she kept having dreams about people's teeth falling out, and then their grandmother died, and it stopped. Then a year or so later it happened again, and one of her sister's friends died.
