nice Gymnopilus Results
    #11285338 - 10/20/09 05:58 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Went hunting today, found several spread out patches of nice Gymnopilus Spectabilis, unfortunantly some people love to kick mushrooms, so some of the ones i found were destroyed. I only took pictures of the pretty lookin ones.

That's an odd group.  If I hadn't seen the cracked caps in the last photo I would swear they were luteus.  Nice find.

If you look at my post they look kinda like the ones I'm trying to identify. I'm also on the East Coast, and these things are showing up everywhere. What was the spore print color?

You have to experiment, KGB.  There is a wide range of potency from collection to collection and from Gym species to Gym species.

Mryuk:  Those are Honey mushrooms.

Thanks. That is what everyone is saying, A. Gallica. Bummer. The caps in some of his Gym. photos look like mine though (the one where there a several dozen on one photo above).

They were my first real active find so I did.  :puke:  I think I would try any other active first now.  They really do taste bad to me.  Plus, some collections are so weak it really isn't worth it in my opinion.

Holy shit, you are right. That is what I just found out independently when I was looking around at the Armillaria genus. I just posted that on my ID request before I read it here. Since A. Ostoyae seem to be west of my area, it could also be A. Gemina, which are rare, but fit geographically.
