It will sterilize, it would be similar to screwing jar lids on tight. But it is not advisable. The bags can expand in the pressure cooker, you run the risk of them expanding and blocking the valves which is extremely dangerous. Also if you release pressure to quick they can expand and pop. I sometimes partially seal the bags, so there is only one small portion left to seal when they come out of the PC.

If the bag is sealed how can the steam and pressure get in.  with jars there is an air hole for it to get in.  i only do jars so im not that knowledgable with bags but........

It does not need steam or "pressure" to get in. Inside the pressure boiler the water and steam surrounding a closed jar is at say 120C, then the grains and water inside the jar also eventually get to this temperature. All pressure does is increase the boiling point of the water in the PC, which in turn heats the jar beyond 100C. The closed jar will not explode since the pressure inside the jar is equal to the pressure acting on the outside of the jar. i.e. there is pressurised steam in the jar, and pressure from the PC steam on the jar on the outside too.

Think of it the closed jar as a mini pressure cooker inside a pressure cooker. But loosening the lids probably speeds up the process, since it is similar to how people will vent steam from a PC, to drive the air out.

Now if you were to put a closed jar in the oven the pressure increases in the jar and it will eventually explode, since it is normal atmospheric pressure inside the oven.

I no longer use filters on most of my jars, I found it too easy for contams to get in if they got wet. I use filter syringes to get air exchange.

Check out my thread on how to make a simple filtered air pump using a syringe.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4235588#4235588

I sealed jars and heated to about 95C for 64hours to sterilize them, being sealed they lost only a few ml of moisture through the imperfect seal.

hmm... so i'm taking it as there are mixed reviews... right now i'm doing the cloths pin way, but i really don't like it. I'd rather try and seal it and put it in there... I guess i'll do the cloths pin way i do now, and then vac-u-seal it when i pull it out...

LOL.... anyone wanna see what 100 Mycobags look like loaded and stacked up ??? lol
