Sterilizing soil

The only access I have to soil right now is some miracle grow bags that have been sitting outside for months now. I'm sure the soil is infested with fungus gnat eggs, which is what I'm worried about.
Is there an easy way to sterilize the soil without rendering it useless?

I use soil that is sitting outside in my shed ALL THE TIME... Without sterilizing and I've never had a problem....

TBH I find all this talk about sterilising soil to be really strange. Ive always just used compost I have in a bag in my shed or lying against the wall in the back garden.

Even with cuttings they work most of the time and the trade off between time and effort taken to steralise versus failure rate its still a waste of time IMHO.

(Tissue culture and mycology and perhaps cacti and orchids aside)

I'm not worried about the plants. I just find fungus gnats annoying, and I would like to grow plants in my room without having fungus gnats buzz around me.

Get the soil moist and nuke it in the oven at 350F for 30 minutes or put it in the microwave for 10.

Yeah, make SURE to get it moist... It's a fire hazard otherwise... A crazy one at that...
