Peroxide on trays, getting rid of cobweb, sound?
    #11281013 - 10/19/09 10:19 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

did a few trays, got some cobweb forming on day 4 or 5, rice straw and earthworm castings, rye berry spawn.

I know the cobweb was from the straw, there is nothing else it could be from.

Pasteurized at 170 for 2 hours.

sprayed with store peroxide, watched it melt. ALSO sprayed rest of surface of all trays, only 2 made sizzling sounds (I know... its the peroxide).

Was I melting the cobweb before it really formed on the trays that sizzled or wtf...

Im not worried about it coming back but I just want to know I guess...

mycelium does get destroyed by peroxide, so I dont know who said it was fine but they were dead wrong...

or PE3 is just weak

as for the cobweb H2O2 will kill it

u sprayed peroxide on mycelium full strength?

Yeah it'll sizzle. It'll kill pins too and possibly stall the cake.

try cutting down to 15 percent and don't use it as prevention, use it when you can see a cobweb infection.

not in my experiences, I had a mono get cobweb while it was fruiting and sprayed h2o2 right out of the bottle on my mushies and sub like a regular misting and didnt effect my mushies at all.  I even got another flush in b4 my reg mold set in on flush #3.  I never touch h2o2 otherwise.

Hah, ok pot. Take some h202 straight out of the bottle and spray it on some fresh pins that don't have cobweb. Tell me how that works out for you.

Straight peroxide isn't suitable for much more than providing oxygen for solid fuel rocket boosters.  In some countries it's sold in ten to thirty percent concentrations, but in the USA, it's packaged in brown bottles and sold in drug and grocery stores at the 3% concentration that is exactly what we want for spraying cobweb mold.  The 3% solution should not be diluted further, but rather should be used right from the bottle.

Peroxide does harm mycelium.  If you spray pins with 3% peroxide and allow them to remain saturated, they will abort. If you're spraying for cobweb, be sure to avoid pins, and if you do hit the pins, fan dry them right away.

A treatment with 3% peroxide on a cobweb infestation should be repeated twice after the initial application at 12 hour intervals to prevent the cobweb from coming back.

Increase fresh air exchange.  Cobweb rarely forms when there is sufficient fresh air.
RR

You're the one with the attitude. I was just trying to help.
I didn't think I had to specify that it wasn't pure h202/rocket fuel.
I thought it was a good assumption that we're all using the 3% stuff
from the store.

All I said was that you should be careful about spraying this stuff
full strength on young, healthy pins.

I have no idea what your malfunction is, but you should fix your attitude.

Valid assumption in the USA, less valid in other places. If you think that there's a chance of misunderstanding, it's good to clarify.
