 question about eating cookie dough

is it a bad idea to eat it out the tub or package? It says not to eat the raw cookie on the package and after some online research, it states that it runs the risk of salmonella. But isn't raw cookie dough served in ice cream and in movie theaters? I had about 3 teaspoons full of raw cookie dough in the past 2 days, and I feel fine. Does this mean I can feel safe with eating out of this tub?

It's probably fine, people eat raw eggs all the time (over rice in Japan or over Muessli in Switzerland).
But to avoid the issue, when I want to omnomnom some cookie dough I just make some from scratch without the eggs.

Your question is actually a good one. Lots of teens (and adults too) enjoy eating raw cookie dough and do not understand the risk of contracting Salmonella. If the cookie dough that you are consuming has raw eggs in it, than there is some risk. If you are referring to a commercial product like ice cream that contains cookie dough, you can rest assured that the eggs that are used in that dough is made safe through a process known as pasteurization.
Salmonella is a germ that can be present in foods such as raw eggs, meat, or poultry. Heating foods kills bacteria, so it is very important to cook these items fully to reduce the risk of getting infected. The time between when you eat a potentially infected item and the onset of the first symptom may be from 6 hours to 10 days, but often happens between 6 and 48 hours. Salmonella causes gastroenteritis (stomach irritation), which can include symptoms such as abdominal cramps, diarrhea, along with fever. Infants, the elderly, and people whose immune system is suppressed (such as those who are HIV+) are most at risk. Salmonella is one of the most common intestinal infections in the United States, with about 40,000 reported cases annually.

most store-bought cookie dough is made with pasteurized eggs so you're fine
the risk of salmonella from homemade cookie dough is really low anyway if you use fresh eggs

that's actually only half true, the reason why people eat raw eggs and are fine outside of the US is because of their raising practices ie. all natural free range. people in japan even eat completely raw chicken meat, when's the last time you heard of that in the US?
in the US though we practice completely shitty raising practices in lieu of more natural practices: ie. factory farms, and is why our chicken and eggs are infested with salmonella.
all organic free range chicken eggs are probably completely safe to eat raw, but eggs in commercial products like in the OP you should probably abstain from eating raw.

Your chances of getting it are extremely low even if it does contain raw eggs, and it's almost never lethal. So I think it's definitely worth the marginal risk of eating delicious dough.

I remember last year i ate a whole tub of cookie doe in two days. Needless to say on the second day I was heaving over a toilet bowl for an hour or so. =\
But theres a very slim chance you'll get salmonella poisoning.

Eat it! If you're really concerned about it grab some irradiated eggs/egg product and make it at home.
I've eaten tons of stuff that really should have me in the grave by now, but I like to pretend that I've worked my immune system up to an astronomically strong level.
Of course I'll probably be cursing that attitude next time I'm shitting blood.
