well, i'm hopin so this peruvianus only just started growing from it's tip (hasn't grown since Nov last year, when it got potted) and I had a bit of trouble after transplanting it: i ran out of soil and had to prop it with cardboard and rocks jammed into the side of the pot :S I've since filled it up slightly, but i didn't think covering the pup with soil would be a good idea... also, you'll be able to see real loose sand at the right base of the cactus: ants recently set up shop in the soil. Anything to worry about? they're just little black sphynx i think, but i know they like to farm aphids, though they're not over the cactus as much as occasionally poking out of their hole.
The pedro also has these wierd eyes growing on it, but it looks like it's had at least 3 of the same thing since it was cut, because it has scars on the same concave sides. odd?
i've since repotted the pedro too, because i was a bit wary of the thinner head, and only just recently read here whilst lurking that spindly growth may be due to the pot size :S I didn't want to dwarf her in a big pot, but she wanted out. will the spindly area thicken at all now?
heh, enough pic whoring. cmonnn pups grow!

Looks like a pup to me.
If you are worried about ants living in the pot. Fill a large bucket/container with water and soak the ant affected pot for an hour or so. This should drown the buggers. The spindly growth wont thicken either.
