I dont need school to teach me about the universe

Ive read every single stephen hawking book & many more on astrophysics, mainly unified theories etc...
None of them even come close to grasping the sheer enormity of 'Being'

I know someone who studied astrophysics at cambridge, he now gives satsang...

I don't think we can transcend the mind.
Maybe we can transcend our thinking, but the mind...? Wouldn't that mean death?

So one who has transcended thought has also transcended the mind and no longer is hindered by mental formations that keep one from remaining in a state of 'being'.
Is that what you are saying?
But that is impossible because it is a function of the brain to create thoughts and hence mind. In the very same way our heart pumps and our muscles work... i don't think it is possible. Furthermore, even the Buddha, so i have heard, had to listen to his gathering and answer endless question-time. As he formulated his ideas, surely he must have had thoughts and thus mind. Now, could that mean that he was capable of 'being' while at the same time being thoughtful and mindful?

I'm sorry to object what you say, but it sounds not very likely to be possible at all.

Please do object!
At least you do it in an open minded & intelligent way
So i dont mind conversing with you further about it...

You really answered it with your last question
"could that mean that he was capable of 'being' while at the same time being thoughtful and mindful?"

We are always Being
But like the other day when we were talking about Awareness...
I mentioned that we sometimes lose our Awareness in objects
Which then causes us to miss the greatness of Awareness
Grabbing at an object, we only see what we are grabbing at, rather than seeing the expanse, the totality of Being

So thinking can be like these objects that distract us from simply Being
(Thoughts just being very subtle objects)

If you contemplate (meditate) on Being/Awareness, a great power is returned within & the thoughts lose their power of distraction
The power stays centered rather than leaking out through thoughts

Thoughts continue to function, but the whirlwind isn't pulling you about anymore
You maintain inner composure, inner peace, you stay centered
Staying centered, thoughts work for you, rather than against you

This reminds me of something my sisters little girl said:
"Mummy, why do we have nightmares? Isn't my brain on my side?"

:peace:

So in order to let our 'being' be total, we should try not to lose our awareness in objects.
Maybe we should try to find our awareness in objects, so that we can totally be in our awareness, being totally aware.
I think that is possible.
Thinking with awareness.
Mindful with awareness.
Being aware.
Yup, sounds about right to me.

You are talking IMO about the practacalities of using the mind intelligently.

So called primitive peoples often did this well. Less mind chatter and clutter. Focused thinking and concentration. This is all there is to awareness as far as anyone has ever been able to show.

Nothing mystical here. All happing in the brain. We often think that we need a spiritual rescue when what we really need  IMO is a healthy psychology. So much of modern humanity is psychology unhealthy we tend to think that this is the best our brains can do.

Strange way to put it.
Feels more like awareness is the result of looking with attention.
You make it sound like there isn't anyone looking.
As if awareness existed on its own.
I don't think it does.
I think awareness is dependent upon our actions of looking, thinking, feeling, etc...

Theres nothing mystical or spiritual about it on a mental level, on a psychological level

All i can say is when i meditate, when im focused solely on experiencing Awareness
The experience of Awareness is omnipresence, everywhereness
It could be described as 'spirit' because its empty, nothing, formless
Words like spirit ae just to decribe that its not 'matter', its not a construct

Nothingness as an idea is a contstruct, nothingness as nothingness is nothingness

This is the new agers version of the Christian God.  The intelligent awareness out there that really has most all the attributes of a God when you get down to it.

Let's face apparent facts as we know them. Nobody knows what is going on in infinity. Is it aware? Is it conscious? Is it pie in the sky with our name written on a piece? Nobody knows. Honest folk will admit it.

How can you be aware without subject?
How could you tell?

I mean i'm meditating and my awareness expands beyond my body, into the room, into the house, into the neighbourhood, into the world, into space... but all that time my awareness was about something.

I don't think i can be aware without an object. See, something has to reflect awareness, what else is awareness measured by?

Are you sure that when you meditate you are not aware of 'something'? Yourself perhaps?

Describe to me the one who is looking...
Who is there, behind everything looking?

Awareness is not dependent on thinking
Thinking is dependent on Awareness
Without Awareness you could not think
Wihout thoughts, you remain Aware

Yeah, that's the impression i get from chronic.
He says that awareness is something beyond ourself.
I find that hard to see since awareness is part of me.
I can't be myself without being aware nor can i be aware without being myself.
I'm sure he means it rightly, but he puts it in such a strange way...

I am the one who is looking when i look.
There is no-one behind the looking because i am the looking that i do.

Without something to be aware of i cannot be aware. Can you?

I haven't really seen any evidence that the brain can remain thoughless. It seems to be processing all the time. I have even had personal evidence of my brain dreaming while awake. The experience of being awake overwhelms the dream state so one may think there is nothing else going on.
