PDA trail and error and now a question...

I just wanted to to a test run as this is my first time mixing my agar and I tried the PDA using potato flakes rather than making a vegetable stock, which may be better in the future. But anyway I followed the guidelines of just about everything on here and it didn't seem to go right. I just made a quart (600ml) of liquid as a test run.
I mixed 8g of crushed agar flakes, 5g of corn syrup (didn't have dextrose), and 600ml of water and stirred it up really well. I stirred each time before I poured them into pint jars (again just a test run until I get petri dishes) and I poured about 1/4 from the bottom on all....I just eye balled that part. Everything else was done on a digital scale or measuring device.
I PCed for 30 min, let the jars cool for a while, and set in the fridge. I came to them this morning and some jars were really solid, some more like jello, and others just liquid. What went wrong. I suspect not enough agar. The potato flakes never seemed to dispense in the water, just kinda suspend in the solution. Any thoughts?

i always use hot water to mix in my potato flakes, then add the other ingredients seems to dissolve the flakes better...

Heat the water before the addition of the potatoe. I use at least double the agar when I make PDA 15-20g

uneven agar distribution was the reason for me to use my stick blenderin my potato broth when mixing agar.
that one makes sure everything is distributed super evenly !

You know it didn't think this would be necessary, but I will remake a batch tonight and use my blender and hot water to mix everything. I knew it didn't look from the time I poured the agar.

I wanted to try it out in a hurry so I went and bought what the store had. I plan on getting powder by the pound. It can be found for $50 for 2lbs of agar powder. Do you get yours any cheaper?

Also, do you think that if I used the solid dishes they would still be viable. I can see solid suspended within the gel. I can remake them all, but want to reuse what I can.
Another thing, before I PCed the agar, the solution white but after the PC, which was 5-10min more than I wanted to do (lost track of time), and the solution came out brownish...Still translucent/slightly opaque but much darker than I have seen in pictures. Is it possible to PC too long?

Ok. I was thinking about reusing the solution and just making it liquid again, and adding more agar to the mix while blending it. But then I thought about it being over cooked. I will just toss all but 3 of them (out of 9). Hopefully I can get the mixture right so I can get started on some much anticipated agar work.

there is one think you do have to keep in mind when pressure cooking anything with sugar in it may it be dextrose or alike, your sugar can CARAMELIZE if heated to long which is something you do not want.
liquid media is fine after MAX 20 mins in the clave at 15psi. (thats for 750ml bottles)
