Proper drying process?
    #11276392 - 10/19/09 12:21 PM (8 years, 10 months ago)

I left some infront of a de-humidifier for 2 days, and they became like dried insect husks (the ones that disintegrate into powders if you touch them). I'll try to scrape up in a bowl and eat them this weekend to see if theres any potency left but seeing stuff on youtube I don't think using de-humidifier was a good idea. What is a good way to dry? Just leave them in a regular room condition? Sun dry?

Do you mean a dehydrator. I use a dehydrator all the time best way to go no potency loss. Dont leave them at room temp or sun dry

I keep a small fan blowing air on them for 12-24 hours.  Then they go into a dehydrator - standard dehydrator temps are safe, no potency loss noted.  Finally, they go into permenant storage with a teabag cut and filled with desiccant.

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

No not dehydrator, I mean something like this:

http://www.fortress.com.hk/fortress/jsp/sys/Sf_render.jsp?hf_s_id=FT11&hf_srv_id=Pv_fpdt_dtl&hf_rand=994498846&hs_from_srv_id=Pv_fpdt_list&hs_srch_keywd=&hs_pdt_id=APSNFYHC12X

Since Hong Kong is very humid, these machines are sold widely, and dries a 500 square foot room from 90% to sub-50% pretty quickly, and leaving it infront for 2 days must have sucked every water particle out of the mushrooms. Maybe I will try to leave it infront for lesser amount of time next time.
Thanks all for the responses.
