Colonization Times
    #11276340 - 10/19/09 12:05 PM (8 years, 23 hours ago)

Once again as newbie I'm quite confused, especially reading hrs upon end on this site, I knocked up my jars on 9/16 and am at only 80% colonization on a few jars and maybe 50% on the rest( a total of 12 jars)so far looks like healthy white myc. My main question here is, do I need to be more patient yet? Also keep in mind that no matter what, my house is always a constant 68 degrees winter or summer.
The jars are stored in a box on top of a side by side freezer.Pretty close to the ceiling temp is @71 degrees.
The strain is gt and did a new batch on 10/9 w r44 and no signs of colonization yet.
Have I failed?

sounds right on track..

couple of stalled jars is no biggie..
flip em over and give em a whack so they slide to the top (which is now the bottom)

if the others are 100%, give em 5-7 days to consolodate and birth them..

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

yes the foil is still on the jars, the other thing I noticed is that I have a jar that I must have only inoculated 3 sides cuz theres no mycelium on that side of jar, will this take longer to colonize, or is it a spent jar?

Its good just takes alittle longer with only 3 innocs. Also take the foil right off. You will notice a increase in colonization they need Gas exchange right now and the foil can block that

Its Alright this is a common mistake people do thinking they need the foil still. theres no need for it you have a dry verm barrier to hold back contams. Trust me I have done lots of PF cakes loose the foil

The verm will only be exposed on the 4 little innoc holes on the lid its all good

at around 86, you will see an explosion of colonization, but thats also how contams get started

He;s right you want to keep them at room temp around 75. Thats a solid temp with minimal risk of contams

Just one more thing I did not put 4 holes in medal lid just foil,I did drill a half inch hole and used tyvek, Once again with all the books and reading here it gets a little confusing expecialy when you want to do everything by the tee!
Plus it doesnt help after 10 years of smoking 4 packs a day, then going to 0 packs my brain is going bizerk, need to feed it with some mushies!
Tnx again guys for the input!
