Suggestion from the pro's on Spawn quantities Please
    #11275585 - 10/19/09 05:23 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Hey guys.

Quick question regarding quantities of spawn.

I have 4 quarts of wbs, OI. Spawning to coir/coffee in monotub.

My question is if it would be better to split the 4 quarts of spawn as to not put all my eggs in one basket.

Have 2 quarts of spawn and substrate in two different foil pans in the same monotub.

Or in this case, since it's only 4 quarts, just go ahead and throw it all together in one monotub - no foil pans.

Thanks for any input!

A thicker/bigger  substrate will give you better fruits. But I would split into 2  smaller ones  if this is your first casing/tub.

Plenty of time to work yourself bigger and bigger, you  would be gutted if you lost it to trich. Take your time,  always do  things on the cautious side and  youl be fine.

Schweet, thats what I was thinking as well-

Although I do have 4 quarts of Benzi up and coming behind this along with 5 bags from TMS, also with Alacabenzi. So if I were to lose this one to trich - it would suck but I have a replacement up and coming soon.

However, this OI is my first bulk and I'd love for it to work out.

So you would suggest putting it into two separate trays inside of 1 monotub? That was my plan and just wanted to see if that was correct.

 Thanks for the reply.

Well, not inside a 'monotub' par  say, youll want to put the tray inside a shotgun......a tub with lots of wet perlite at the bottom, also if possible, try put some runners/cage to hold the trays a little above the perlite (the more surface area the perlite has, the more humidity it will create.

Well, if you had two square foil trays that fit inside of a monotub snuggly. Wouldn't they create their own humidity without any perlite?

On the other hand - this may defeat the purpose of creating two foil trays. Since they would be sharing the same environment I suppose they would share the same contams as well.

By the way -

I use a tit to incubate all the jars/bags, set to about 81 degrees.

I generally planned on spawning to substrate within monotubs.

I thought Shotguns were more for cakes and such.

I could be all wrong though.. haha, like I said - first bulk.

No, your right.  I didnt know how big your trays/tub was. If the trays are a snug fit then it will be a monotub in affect.  What i was suggesting was small casings within a shotgun, but  if youve got  the right sized trays then your all good with the  monotub.

And on the  contam issue, obviously they will share the  same air.  but if the contam is  within the substrate itself you have a chance at saving the other trays  if you spot it quickly and throw out the bad one.

Im not sure how thick a monotub substrate  must be to adequately humidify  a monotub, perhaps someone else  will jump on the thread and advise.

the depth for a tub should be 4-5 inches.  I would suggest doing your chamber like this

Thanks doc.
You could put two trays in a tub.  No need to case if you spawn to ccv, and you have the chance of saving a tray if you get contaims and throw the tray out quick enough.  GL
