Another ID challenge
    #11275550 - 10/19/09 04:57 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Found in a mixed hardwood forest south of Chicago IL near oak and maple, growing under some bushes in leaf litter out of the soil yesterday. There were many growing in the same area, but none found anywhere else. Spore print can be seen in one picture (rusty), naturally left on one of the lower mushrooms. Very tall, sturdy, and large. Any ideas? Edible?

Perhaps a Cortinarius species.  If so, they are not edible.

Yeah I did find one of those purple Cortinarius fake Blewits like a foot away from those, so that's very possible.

The rusty spores are pretty indicative of Cortinarius.

It's nice when nature makes a spore print for you.
