Best idea for mushroom hunting took 3 years to perfect
    #11275137 - 10/19/09 12:16 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Ok heres the deal guys. Ive been a dog trainer for some years now, and have a chocolate lab that ive been training for mushie hunting, by first hiding a few mushies around the yard then giving him the scent to track em down, and of course a treat for a job well done.I would also like to add my dog coco was already trained to be a pointer for bird hunting and is an extremely smart dog i mean he can open doors lock or not(from the inside of course he cant use a key lol) he'll bring ya a beer if your in need out of the fridge btw and yea i dunno hes probably the smartest dog ive ever had. Well all the work finely paid off day before yesterday, or atleast im pretty sure it did. We went out (coco and I) around 12ish and went huntin and that dog ran down probably 40-50 mushies in less then half an hour.He would run up to one and jus stand and point (that's when the dog stands still with his/her tail straight out for the non hunters in here) and wait for me to come and pick, and im pretty sure i can trust em on what he finds but well see if i put that much into him.I find it much much easier to find them now.

Now im not completely sure it wasnt a fluke or by chance, but i am about 95% sure i got him trained.

Pretty damn good idea. I dont have many naturally growing shrooms where I am from.

How did you train it to get beer? haha

that's something you'll probably never know ... but if you check 'em out and find out that the mushrooms are all actually actives, then who cares lol

My dog is well trained too he has his HRCH(hunter retriever champion - UKC) and I trust my dog more than I do anything else...That said, I see no reason this shouldn't work if you work with him enough.

tl;dr

This seems very plausible, considering pigs/hogs are trained to search for truffles, I fail to see how this is any different (with the obvious exception that you use a dog to hunt for mushies...  lol)

Congrats on work most excellent!  :billymaythumbup:
