Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition

Just came out this week. If anyone here hasn't played Fallout 3 yet, now is a good time to start. The original game + all five expansion packs, I got the PC copy for $47. It was a hell of a deal, considering this game will eat away at my life for months, and I'll be happy to let it.

Yeah i'm thinking of getting it for PS3, Fallout3 was stuck on its release price right up until now... ($109NZD) and now that goty edition has come out its all at $89NZD. god knows why its price was static until goty... but i'm probably going to get it now that it has come down in price with all the DLC included - (which after exchange rates seems not too bad)

Do it! This is the best videogame I've played in years.
I had played it on xbox360 last year, a few months after it came out, but I didn't like my xbox and I sold it. I waited until this week to buy it for PC, and now that it's here I'm having a fucking blast...um...blasting things.

Morrowind was awesome, Oblivion was pretty - but the 3rd party stuff was a must IMO. I can probably run FO3 on my PC on lowest settings, since i can run oblivion on med, but i kinda wanna play it fast and sexy on the ps3 - but i hope inability to use great 3rd party stuff (script extenders, after-main-quest playability etc...) won't let me down.

its nothing like FO or FO2, so if thats what your looking for you will be sadly disapointed. if you completely disconnect yourself, and view it as just another game, then it is indeed a good game, otherwise you will be saying to yourself the whole time...why oh why did they take that out or not put this in ect ect, so in my opinion they ruined the FO franchise
beth is just the victim of a socialist society, they caved in ever since morrowind to catter to "everyone" and trying to be politically correct. no more putting c4 in kids backpacks, no more eye shots, they just left out so much of the goods from prior FO's. as a developer, and someone trying to continue a franchise they should have ensured EVERYTHING came over from the previous fallouts and then ADDED to it....nope didn't happen...they did the same thing with going from morrowind to oblivion.

I thought FO3 was boring, traded it in before i finished.
The map sucks, the attack system thing where you zoom into body parts is repetitive. Running miles from point to point is a pain, plus it's just depressing. I can't stand all that talking shit either.

indeed, i loved short blade / long blade, light/medium/heavy armor/unarmored, and many other options in morrowind that were missing from oblivion. Builds were so customizable in morrowind it was awesome. although combat is awesome with deadly reflex combat mod in oblivion, great fun in the arena.
No eye shots...! oh man, so can you still take down a massive mutant or powerarmored soldier with small arms? How well does it follow the other two, are deathclaws extinct?
I think i'll enjoy it viewed purely as a fps. And people keep telling me to get it, so i guess it can't be bad.

You don't have to use VATS to fight - and it does take a bit of timing & skill to use all your "points" effectively. You can fast travel between most locations except buildings/metro tunnels. The depressing world is part of why I love FO3. The lengthy conversations can get somewhat grating, but you always have the option to get the info you need and bounce. A lot of the story is entirely optional.
I played Fallout and Fallout 2 when I was a kid, but I never beat them, nor was I a "big fan". I was probably just too young to get involved in such an immersive, somewhat above-my-head world. Comparing the new game to the old is fine and all, but it seems like a completely different experience. I think Bethesda did a fine job. Like I said, I haven't had this much fun with a game in a long time.

yah i think you can kill anything with any weapon as long as your built right. your locked in a vault at the beginning, i believe thats really the only thing thats similar to the past games. there seems to be alot of insects but i can't remember if they have deathclaws, there do seem to be alot of swamp creatures i just can't remember their names. it really falls short on the dark humor part of the past games, thats what was so awesome about eye shots and stuff like that.

Also, I hear that once you beat the game you can't go and do more side missions, can someone tell me a good spot to stop in the main quest line w/o giving spoilers? And is it possible to to the 5 additional content questlines after the main story has been completed?

Damn this game is amazing. It always feels like a struggle for survival. I feel like I am always in constant need of more ammo and food.
are different enemies at different levels permanently, or do they scale along with you? Sometimes it feels like people are able to just beat the shit out of me. Like yesterday I was wandering through a city and some talon mercs jumped out of nowhere and raped me.
