That was my first thought when i saw it, but it looks totally different than any cubes i've ever found. Are there different strains of it or something? I found about 8 in 3 different patches. All looked the same. i've never found a normal cube in this location before.

Unsure on Name but is Common in my fields. It has no Ring on stem Has purplish Colour on Top Usually and Grey purple gills.Ocassionally Cubensis in my fields Cover themselves with spore in Attempt to Look like this Species.Strangely this Species tries to look like Cubensis by sometimes getting Very Golden Tops. Its purple bruising can be Confusing but its Grey purple Gills Easily tell it apart from Cubensis.

I would say the staining (where the stipe is broken) is green, and that the ring either dried against the stipe, or the weather was dry enough that the veil tore off in shreds, rather than a perfect annulus, OR fell off during handling.

That said, not every mushroom is going to look the same as other specimens of the same species.  This one if well within the description of an average P. cubensis.

yeah its not unusual for a dried up veil remanent to fall off at some point.

Yeah, I'd make sure to positively identify mushrooms before consuming them unless you're attempting to auto-darwinate.

Hahah, no shit.
Are you being honest when you ate an unknown mushroom? Are you trying to get killed? There are quite a few poisonous mushrooms out there, and if you are unsure of what you're consuming, you're just asking for it.

Oh well, that's natural selection at it's finest. Slowly but surely weeding out the less intelligent...

Looks like Panaeolus to me, but I wouldn't bet my life on those pics.  Did you take a spore print?  Jet black= no know poisonous species which is why you haven't 'been died' yet.

Oh, also, those are not Pan cyans.

i know there not pan. cyanescens but im just trying to find out what they are. some spore prints are black and some are purple. but thanks for the spore tip. and it was quite foolish of me to try them without complete identification. could have died*

I second that. Can we at least all agree on the identification of the mushroom in the first picture posted?
