Any history buffs here?
    #11273060 - 10/18/09 08:59 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I'm looking for "what closed the Americas to European colonization?" Anyone know, this one has been a bitch to find.

Do you mean why was it exclusively Europe?

I think it was a simple geographic fact that caused The America's to be the Final Frontier for European explorers and Colonialism.  Europe, Asia, Africa, they are all connected by land, making discovery and trade and Colonialism much easier.  First, it was difficult for colonialist to even find America, being seperated by such long distances of water, next, this long seperation by water made estabilishing colonies difficult, it was a hard treck from Europe to America.  Also, America has historically been seperated from the rest of the world, and life was much different there.  They didn't find people with the same idea's as them, it was a wilderness filled with "savages".

idk exactly what your asking but this sparked the thought (that I hear somewhere)
the American war of independence (1775–1783) forced Britain to look
elsewhere for colonial expansion and ended up setting up Australia (1788)

As in "What halted further colonization"?

I'm not sure I quite understand the wording of the question.

Do you mean how did it come to be under Europe's control and not say that of Asia's?

If you had any particular readings prior to this question, the answer is probably somewhere in there.

It seems like the question is asking for something specific.

Ah, yes.

I think wars should encompass all global wars. Remember, India was rebelling right before the American Revolution. Thus, British troops were already being used there. France was in the French and Indian War which subsequently preoccupied the British as well.

The tea act wasn't a tax on tea. It was an example of corporate corruption in government. Basically it enabled the east Indian tea company to bypass paying any tax on the tea they were importing, and it allowed them to sell it themselves, thus bypassing the local merchants.

Despite what the dumbass tea baggers might want you to believe it was actually the complete opposite of an increase in taxes.

Random fun fact: The East Indian Tea Company actually had a larger navy than anyone else in the world. They were a bunch of absolute cunts who stole tea from china and imported a slightly tweeked practice of slavery from the Americas into India :birthday:

So those fools participating in The Boston Tea Party were ignorant to this as I was?
