(mycelium overtaking pins) - fixed, pictures aded to original post **porn**
    #11272037 - 10/18/09 05:43 PM (8 years, 4 days ago)

Strain: South American
Substrate: WBS to Coir with coffee

Tub 1: Oct 31st

Tub 1: (Nov 4th, 2009)

Tub 1: (Nov 5)  all of those little white dots seem to be primadora, some are developing into pins.

Tub 2: (nov 5)

Tub 3: (nov 5)

Tub 1: (Nov 6)

Tub 1: Nov 7

Tub 1: Nov 11 (third flush)
I picked the first flush for crop testing, gave away the second and here is the third.  It is the largest so far, and no sign of mold yet.

A couple more pics, forget which day:

Original message:

At first I thought I had cobweb, but now I think most of it is just fuzzy mycelium.  The pins developed low, under some of the bulk substrate.  This happened while I was on vacation for a week, I just returned.

The mycelium seems to have grown on top of the pins, and there may be a tiny bit of cobweb mold (I'm not sure).  I can post a picture, but I do not think it is necessary.

Anyways, I have three questions:

1) Will fanning (proper FAE) alone kill cobweb mold, and prevent it from returning?  What I mean is fanning 3-4 times per day.

2) The pins look dark and healthy, not a bit blue.  Even if cobweb or mycelium is netted loosely around them - with proper FAE, will they continue to develop into healthy mature fruits?

3) I also have two others that seem to have stalled the moment I left due to limited (but there was some) GE.  If I give them slightly more GE should I expect them to continue to colonize?  Or should I attempt to fruit them?

PS:  The mycelium also looks beautiful and very healthy

Please let me know if you need any other information, or pictures.

Well, if it is cobweb, you'd be best to spray some h202 water. Maybe 20 percent strength.

If it's not cobweb and the pins just aborted and recolonized, then you could just strive to maintain optimal conditions for a while, increase the hours of light, and hope for a new pinset.

The h202 can cause pins to abort if they haven't already. Just keep that in mind when you decide what to do.

pics would be good.  fanning wont kill cobweb but h202 will.  If you can eradicate the cobweb and fan you should get healthy fruits. the stalled tubs are that stalled they wont produce anything

What I learned in Biology [a short session on Micro-biology], is that Molds and Mycelium live harmoniously... meaning, they'll compete for edibles (like your grain or substrate) but the mold itself will not get into the Mushroom... so I would say try to fruit it.

taking another look at it, the pins are still brown on top, but there are webs of mycelium over and around them... kinda looks like it's eating the pins.

it looks like this because the pins are way low.. sunken in.  i guess my coir was a little bit too fluffy.

all three smell perfect though.

sadly i do not have any h202 :frown:  although when i sprayed it with water it reacted like last time i thought i had cobweb but it was really fluffy mycellium.  also, it was only about 3mm (less than half an inch) thick.

You know h202 is Hydrogen Peroxide right?  It's usually like 89Cents for a bottle of it and can be found in every grocery store, drug store, and department store in America

Even though I have some formal education relative to mycology, I'm somewhat new at home cultivation, so I've never had this experience... but ultimately, I would suggest leaving it in fruiting conditions and give it some time... because if it's overlay, it's probably from the CO2 Levels being too high... increase fresh air to it and it should stabilize.

cheers and Good luck

yeah i know..  and ok thanks.  i hope it does stabalize.  heres some pics so you can see what i mean:

sorry that only the first one turned out, but those brown dots are the pins.  in the first picture you can see that the mycelium has grown over them making them barely visible.

Pictures are a but blurry, it looks like healthy myc. Fan more. High RH and low FAE will result in myc growing on mushrooms

if you get H2o2 and it comes in a 3% solution use it straight don't dilute it, thats if you still think its cob web

How are your yields in that terrarium?  How big is that plastic container?

Likely you just had a high CO2 environment, which results in the fuzzies.  Cobweb will turn grey and nasty and dominate a substrate quickly.  Lots of fresh air and a little hydrogen peroxide will kill it--it's the sissy of contams.

I had the same thing happen to one of my T.C. tubs. I had soooo many pins that the mycelium consumed some of them because they aborted and a week later, more pins came up.

That it is, I'm actually surprised it's still holding on.  The mycellium grew about an inch up the tub, but I expect the mushroom to fall off eventually.  I kinda hope it doesnt fall though, I wanna trip sooner than later... it's been too long since I got to eat mushrooms I grew myself.  (like 7 months)
