Alright been awhile since I have posted. Been busy out here on the island. So I happen to score a Burma iso fro Justme and his compadres. Very aggressive strain. The qrts of rye colonized 100% in 6 days. The tubs are 11 gal container with 3qts spawn to 9 1/2 qts bulk sub of 6qts coir 2qts verm 1qt gypsum and 1/2 qt cpoo. Each container took roughly 8 days to colonize fully after mixed. The air holes were completely taped and set at 82F. I opened and fanned for about 10 secs once every 2 days.I induced fruiting on 10/8 2 are classic monotub style. One has tape around the bottom to see effects on side pinning.
With tape:
Without:
This tub is done in a style I picked up from Doc T. 1/4" holes ever 2". I ened up having to cover up half to keep my humidity right. It's working great as you can see.
Here are the tubs today 10/15.
With:
Without:
and the Mini:
Ill update with pics in a coupe days. Enjoy.
Oh and i also have 3 tubs doing the experiment with Oakridge that i got from DocT. mahalos mate.

Great experiment. I would have preferred "with garbage bag" vs "without" as a side pinning test but this is still cool. keep up posted.
By the way, it looks like you could use some more air in both those tubs. I'd loosen the polyfill a little.

Yeah I hate using trash bags. It seems like such an inconvenience and they piss me off lol!
And I actually add 2 more holes to to each tub. I though they were looking for air also!

alright so I am adding 2 more tubs to this experiment both are classic monotub style in 11 gal container with the same sub and same ratios as the 3 above. Also the same burma Iso as the 3 above.
These were both laid in tubs the same day as the other but were allowed to consolidate for another week after 100 colonization. I started fruiting these on fri the 10/16
Consolidated tubs:
And here are updates on the others.
with tape: very little side pinning on this one.
With out: I have already pulled about 280g wet and going to pull about that much more after this pic. You can see the holes in the sub from the missing cluters. Half side pinning on this one.
And the MIni with a very nice pinset I might have to add. This has no tape around the bottom either , and very little side pinning.
Ill update again in a few days.
Aloha

These burmas have hard spines. Its kinda eerie biting in to them fresh. If Statements is right and we did come from prototaxites then does that make us hobbyists cannibalistic farmers?

From the pics it seems like the taped sides are irrelavent. Even on the big tub with no tape it looks like it had good pinning on top before you harvested some of the fruits. I personally don't mind side pinning but if there's anyway to defeat it, it's with a garbage bag.
Did you say you had 3 other tubs doing the same experiment? How are those going?

I forgot to take pics of the tub with out the tape but its flush is pretty much done a few lagers but thats it. It produced consistently over 3-4 days and showed its first fruit in 5.
The one with tape I will update tomorrow it doesn't have any ripe fruits any ways but they are larger then either of the other tubes.
Heres the mini this morning right before I went chop down trees. Consistent flush with lots and lots of smalller fuit, which I kinda like. 921.8g wet. Have it soaking right now to see if it will produce another flush.
The 3 oakridge tubs were 100% colonized last night after 4 days. I am going to let them consolidate a few days. The 2 Burmas I did that with already have growing large pins. Its hasnt even been 2 days! Let those tubs sit. Its worth it. Ill post pics of those tomorrow also.

Update on some tubs folks.
This is the tub with tape from 10/18: most of the the other small pins matured a few hours after this pic was taken for a total of 815.2 wet.
I will have a dry weight from the tub with out tape as well as a dry weight from the other 2 tubs when I can.
here is the Mini 2 days after dunking for 24 hours. The prominent booms are pins that were left from the first flush. You also can see many new knots and hopeful pins. I have to add this tubs smells like mushrooms!
And here are the 2 tubs of burma I let consolidate before fruiting. Not as large of pin set but the shrooms that are part of this first flush seem more eager then the other 3. I really can not wait for the 2nd flush on these tubs.
Consolidated with tape:
consolidated with out tape:
Aloha.

That doesn't quite look like 815g wet to me. Are you sure your scale is good?
So the consolidated tubs waited 1 week longer to put into fruiting conditions? did they fruit later than the others?

My scale works fine. If you look at the other pins in the pic. They became mature mushies as well, which is more than double the booms that are in that picture. I wouldn't say the consolidated tubs fruited faster but the fruits seem more confident in what they are doing. The first flush definitely wont be as big but the second seems it will be huge. I do have to add that the fruits from the consolidated tub are lager, thicker heavier, and over all more robust. I want to try a consolidated tub with A mini mono done shot gun style. And I so happen to have 3 tubs of Oakridge that will help with this experiment. I am going to always let my tubs consolidate first from now on.
Ill keep updates coming. I should know the dry weights of the first flush of the unconsolidated tubs tomorrow.
