Horse Poo Problem?
    #11269465 - 10/18/09 04:09 AM (8 years, 11 months ago)

Placed my colonized horse poo into the fruiting chamber two days ago and it looked like this

after the two days in the fuiting chamber it now looks like this

Something wrong with it? Is it too late for me to case it?

It looks pretty normal. It seems your RH went down. Without a casing layer, even with high humidity, the top layer dries out a bit on hpoo. It also looks like you misted it directly. If it gets too yellow something is wrong.

the way in witch the brown/yellowing is spread looks like piss to me, however, i have absolutely no experience with hpoo, only sheep, which didnt go so well.

but if i were you if it smells fine id throw a casing layer on asap.

you can use verm straight outta the bag.  or a 50/50+ which is verm and coir plus gypsum.  I use 2:1:1 peat:verm:perlite and I sometimes throw in orchid mix thats just cause i have a bag of it and want to get rid of it.

Using verm alone is simple and trich wont touch it. Put it on dry and dont get it wet. Cobweb mold some how can live off wet verm but it grows slow and peroxide kills it quick.

i usually use a mix of coir/verm,(just because i have shit load of coir and nothing else to do with it)so i highly recommend straight verm for the same reason cloenfu mentioned, trich wont go near it.
however i always wet my verm before i put it on, throughly wet it and toss it in the nuke for acouple minutes. wait until luke warm and apply.

alot of people seem to be against straight verm casings for some reason, they've never let me down personally.

oh and if you need to test to see if the verm case is still damp a few days from now dont be afraid to touch it after a good hand washing.
but make sure your finger nails are clean.
