    #11269341 - 10/18/09 01:30 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

My first flush hasnt finished yet and my cake is turning blue around where the largest cluster of mushrooms are, i assume this is because of drying out? How can i fix this?

bruising is usually associated with touching your cake,
however, sometimes it can be from drying out, though mine usually turn a slight brownish.

its nothing to worry about.

Yea your good.  Bruising is natural after the cake has been in some sort of conflict.  After dunking my cakes were always blue

You are correct, the blue bruising is simply a sign of drying out. Once you've harvested your first flush, submerge the cakes in cool water in a pot for anywhere between 12 and 24 hours. Give your cake a good rinsing under the faucet before and after the dunk. When that's done, roll your cakes in dry vermiculite. Make a little pile of dry verm on the top of each cake and then put it in your fruiting chamber. Wait 30 minutes, and then lightly mist the cakes and get those verm piles on top nice and moist. This whole process will rehydrate your cakes for the second flush and keep your cakes from drying out. Good luck!
