Datura
    #11266371 - 10/17/09 03:44 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

So I have been moving my stuff into the new place and I saw these plants earlier before they died and I can't help but think they are Datura, and some big ones too. I would like a ID, but I don't have any pictures, Ill post one up in a day or two.

Just dropped off another load and thought to grab some pictures. I know its dead so you might not be able to distinguish but do I have natural Datura growing in my front yard?

Close up of the pods

If so what strain is it? And how do I utilize it?

Thats Datura alright.  Metel or Inoxia probably. It's definitaly not Stramonium "Jimson Weed".
Stramonium doesn't have hanging pods.. they stick straight up and the seeds are black.
The seeds in that pod are tan I bet.
And you utilize it by planting the seeds in the fall and you will have nice flowers next year

I would advise against eating that shit.  It's just bad news and can KILL.
Ok after a quick search I believe that is Inoxia.
"The plant is an annual herb growing up to 3 ft. high. It is slightly furry, with dark violet shoots and oval to broad oval leaves that are often dark violet as well. The pleasantly-scented 6-8 in. flowers are immensely varied, and can be single or double. Colors range from white to cream, yellow, red, and violet. The seed capsule is covered with numerous conical humps and a few spines.[1]. It is similar to D. inoxia, but D. metel has almost glabrous leaves and fruits that are knobby, not spiny. D. inoxia is pilose all over and has a spiny fruit."
That was off a page about Metel.

I thought Datura is a entheogen? It doesn't have any psychedelic properties? If it doesn't I will just rip it out and utilize that part of the garden, there are two giant bushes sticking out of the front fence. Let me know, and also if anyone want's some Datura seeds I can pull some from the pods there are about 50+ in my front yard.

Datura does have entheogenic properties, but is EXTREMELY dangerous and usually not pleasant.

Also, Datura is an annual, so that dead one in your yard will remain so.

Yeah but if its not even worth it I would rather tear it out and plant some morning glory, this is my first yard that I have ever had to work on, so I am really excited, and I want plants for a purpose, beauty, medicinal, edible, and Datura doesn't really fit into any of those categories for me if its forbidden psychedelic values have to high of a chance of fatality to touch. Maybe I might just keep a specimen in a pot and bring it back every year, but that would be it.

yeah I grow Stramonium every year too.  But only for the flowers. I would never ever injest it. Theres a fine line between delerium and death with it.

That said it CAN be mixed with MJ and smoked to make the MJ last longer. It doesn't ruin the flavor either but it also doesn't produce any effects when smoked nor will it kill you. I smoked extract of the seeds and lived muahahaha... but felt nothing either.  Inoxia will taste different than Stramonium though.

Does Brugmansia Suaveolens or other similar "Hell's Bells" type flowers in the Nightshade family contain the same alkoids as Datura?

Every time someone gets mad and says they went to the hospital, ask them exactly how much they took and whether it was combined with anything else, whatsoever.

Having experimented with many different dosages, myself, I don't believe there is such a fine line.

I have 5 different Brugmansia trees. They have very pretty flowers and smell fantastic...I'm scared as hell to experiment with them on any level other then growing.

Well I saved a pod for seeds, for maybe growing a 1 or 2 in some pots, however I cut the two big bushes out to make room for some Morning Glory that I will grow on the fence.
