repasteurization of hpoo/coir/verm
    #11266329 - 10/17/09 05:36 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

I pasteurized my hpoo and coir earlier by dumping boiling hot water over a pillow case full of my sub, sqeezed out the excess water and moved to a garbage bag and then to get the rest of the moisture out I put in a make shift still air box then squeezed out the rest by hand(sterile) and put in a new bag then added some verm and finally the moisture content is perfect but I want to pasteurize it again by boiling it while wrapped up in dual trash bags and I'm curious if they would melt or get sticky?(I really don't want contams:sun:)

also I am curious how long this will last before I should use it?

pasteurize  it in a pillow case and then squeeze excess water out.

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

I did that and there was still a lot of water left so I needed to take further steps to get it to field capacity sooo now I want to make sure its nice and clean for my mycelium and I  believe boiling it in a few layers of trash bags would do nicely. no?

No, trash bags will melt.

Get some oven-safe turkey bags or autoclavable spawn bags.

I say pasteurize it again to get best results, and sterilize it like you're saying to experiment. I've had past temps go past 180 and everything was fine....

The melting point for average, commercial, low-density polyethylene is typically 105 to 115 °C (220 to 240 °F).

water boils at 212F so keep it under a boil and it looks like it will be ok.

thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated! I just dont want to have to to the pillow case again cuz I just cant get the water all out, when I got the water out by hand after squeezing in the pillow there was a lot left that I definitely don't want in there so how could I pasteurize this without getting more moisture into my sub?

but the temp to pasteurize is 160 -170 or so. so if they melt at 105-115 they are still no good. :2cents:  :imo:
