I can't remember what its called. I can no longer launch IE or Firefox and want to see what's causing it. Antivirus, Windows Updates, Redownloading IE and Firefox, Advanced System Care have all been performed.

Can't you just view the the "Event Viewer" in Admin. Tools?

Well I didn't realize the Event Viewer was now used for this troubleshooting (its been several years since I messed with this stuff). I don't see any related info yet relating to IE or FF. Where should it be?

If both Web browsers are not launching, then you probably have some kinda bug in your system, what kinda AV do you have? Some internet security suits like Norton 360 can disable Web Browsers from launching and system monitors, can also disable them from launching. have you ran Hijack this yet?

Windows Vista SP2 (which blows in case anyone needed backup evidence) AVG Antivirus Free (updated and ran) Tried a number of programs CPU keeps flatlining at 100% For the past 4 months IE and FF won't do anything except for 1 second attempt to launch Also happening with nearly all troubleshooting attempts Chrome runs beautifully as does Opera and MS Word and MS Powerpoint Unable to get Hijack this to run

I have a black version of office installed
Issue occurred two or three days after taking all Windows Updates and installing Office Sync Ctr
A couple weeks later I get errors regarding my unauthentic copy of Office
I think this is without question an act on MS's part that cannot be detected

if your unable to get hijack this to run you got something funky, try renaming hijack this to lax.exe, see if that runs. also have you ran combofix? it can mess your system up supposedly, make sure you download it from bleepingcomputers.com and not the combofix.org. I see some browser viruses are not seen by your normal AV for some reason, makes it hard to push AVG at work when it(along with every other AV out there can't remove it). try the crap uptop and see if you can get it to work. Backup your registry before doing anything too

Since you can use Google Chrome, may I suggest running Trend Micro's Housecall. I have used it successfully in the past on a computer whose anti-virus could not find the infection.
