Can nobody help? I want to build up a database of wildlife in my town, including fungi here. Any mycologists out there with any clues?

Yes, it's a coprinoid. Maybe Coprinellus micaceus. The pictures are good, but it would have helped to see a picture of them in their natural habitat, preferably with other specimen in various stages of maturity. Where they growing isolated, gregariously or in clusters?

They weren't directly side by side but there were quite a few in a smallish area. Some were fairly isolated, though. I'd say a max of one or two appeared to be growing from each cow pat.

Coprinellus or Coprinopsis.

There are lots more of the same type at the field so I will photograph them soon.
