The vent on my microwave is stuck on, it will not shut off. We unplugged it and plugged it back in and its still on and wont shut off. It came on randomly, I believe to be something with the control panel.

No, I wouldn't think so. The actual part of the door that does all the "protecting" is on the inside of it, and is a metal screen type of thing. It's only purpose is to stop any microwaves from leaking out the door.
As long as it's just the outside of the door, and it's just cracked, then I don't see any problem with using it!

lol, no you have to be suspended in the air via a rubber harness in order not to be electrocuted. duh.

A plastic rod would be better! Wood can conduct electricity...if it gets wet inside, for example. Having any metal in the rod is just plain dangerous though!
I made a "probe" rod for use in my HV experiments from an old plastic hanger. Just cut out the bottom of it, and voila! Instant probe! Just make sure it doesn't have any carbon in it (some black/silvery plastics) and is at least 6" longer than your hand will reach, and you should be fine!
But I still don't recommend opening a microwave...just buy a new one! They're pretty cheap.

No doubt, it actually stopped after a few minutes of it being turned back on, I think something may be going on the control board, there's a place you can send them in and have em replaced for rather cheap.

Have you been boiling in it a lot? Is it in a very cold room? Condensation collecting inside could cause a short in the control switch. Mine did this a few times last fall. I cut the heat flow to the kitchen to save $. Steam from cooking would condense on any cold surface. It worked normally after it dried out.
