Final Fantasy XII
    #11264819 - 10/17/09 12:30 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Just picked this up today...

I haven't played an RPG in years, will I be able to enjoy this without a strategy guide?

Depends on how into the final fantasy games you are.

If you are the type that has to get every weapon in the game you'll need the strategy guide.

if you're in it just for the story and game play you should be fine.

yeah you'll do alright.  I finally beat it a month or two ago after shelving and unshelving it for a few years.  I had about 90-100 hrs invested in the end and still only beat maybe 70% of side content.  you can pretty much get by the whole story without a guide.  the extra stuff you need one, for sure.

If you want everyone's everything, get a guide and read it. Especially the ultimate weapons. Its easy to fuck that up.

id reccomend the guide. But its still enjoyable without it , althouh most of the fun for me was in getting all the shit and becomng the most powerful fucker in th universe. It got to a point where the final boss was a piece of fuckin cake , while other bosses , like ultima and shit where a bit more of a hassle.
The story and whatnot is great by itself though.
But it IS amazing to see just how big the world of Ivalice really can be.

the hunts were :awesome:
I so hope they put them in FFXIII in some form.  that was one of the best sidequests in any FF game ever.

Final Fantasy 12 was the only Final Fantasy I have played.  I didn't use any guide and I got 98% of everything completed.  It is a very interesting story line and it's amazing how they cram so many intricate cut-scenes and worlds onto one disc.
And yeah, it will take you a couple years to finish the game, unless you play it die hard every day... then maybe you might finish it in 3-6 months

It's an awesome game.

I just started today, after having not even picked up a video game controller in like 5 years and I'm already getting the feel for it.  The only thing I'm unsure of is taking on multiple side quests... can you?  Does it log them?  From what I've seen there's not sort of log, you just need to remember where you found the person once you've completed it.

That doesn't seem to show anything other than hunt info and other game info.  The map does a pretty good job of putting up beacons though, I just gotta not bite off more than I can chew.  I'm definitely liking the game so far though.  I'm only about an hour in, level 5.
