UW-Madison.

Although it is regarded a "party school" by some, and there is definitely a large body of regular drinkers, this is mostly sectored in the people who are your average "college d00dz" and can be wholly avoided.  Madison is extremely hippie-friendly (hell, all of the Williamson-Marquette neighborhood is either neo-hippies or burned out deadheads) and it is a small-ish city with all the comforts of country living nearby -- Isthmus lakes Monona and Mendota, Devil's Lake State Park (cleanest lakewater I've seen in the US), lots of other nature-involved diversions.  And I suppose if you're into marijuana the scene is extremely tolerant (small personals decriminalized last summer, big NORML group, Madison Hempfest in fall.)

Admissions are moderately tough, primarily because of the sheer number of applicants and the fact that also accept a large number of foreign applicants each year.

Out of state tuition is a bit steep at $22.270/yr unless you're a Minnesota resident.

Look into it though.  If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

seconded! madison is my home town, and very very hippie-friendly and also theres tons of psychedelics around. also some great weed

Ya, I started at UW-Madison this year. I am from CA but madison's business school is bombbb

Any people in Madison hit me up, i don't know a lot of people here yet.

to edit a lengthy read, whats a good college that every undergrad isnt obsessed with alcohol. and i wont be the only kid avoiding the 'party scene' and indulging in large spectrum of psychedelic drugs.
been looking at this list a bit.
not too expensive.

thanks in advance.

Try a University of California campus. With your SAT scores, you won't get into UCLA or Cal, but if you have at least a 3.5 GPA you could try for UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, or UC Riverside. I go to UCR and it's pretty nice; not that many alcoholics. A lot of my friends love UCSC because it's right next to a beach and a forest. Plus, it has a huge hippie population and is definitely 4:20 friendly.

yeah dude if u want a decent UC go to either Santa cruz or Santa Barbara

If u have like a 3.5GPA u can get in, but if u have mad extra currics u could shoot for UCLA or Cal, especially if you're a transfer student u can get in EZ.

I don't think so. You're going to need more than extra curriculum to get into UCLA or Cal if you have a 3.5 GPA. Your SAT reasoning score has to be at least 2000, and your SAT subject test scores have to be at least 700 each; you have to take two subject tests to even apply for admission.

Trust me, UC's are fucking hard to get in to. I got into UCSB, but chose UCR because they gave me money. But even though I got into UCSB, I was denied to every other campus, besides UCR; I didn't apply to UCSC or UCMerced, though. My SAT scores were 2100 for the reasoning, 780 for Biology (Ecology), and 800 on the MathIIc. And I'm in-state, which means it's way fucking easy for me to get in.

If you're out-of-state, I suggest you bulk up your application by retaking the SATs, shooting for at least 2000, and doing some volunteer work or something of the sort.

Santa Cruz is definitely a wise choice. But don't be wary of the UC system's newest addition: Merced.

A couple friends of mine that go there say they love the area; it's a small rural area near a lake and state park.

as of northern cali schools, I attend chico state, about 1.5 hours north of sacremento. Its pretty hippie friendly, but there are going to be alcoholics where ever you go.

for northern ca schools i would recommend looking into sonoma state, humboldt state, chico is definitely a sick school with lots of wilderness, just come visit.

Hey me too, are you a Chico local?

I am a chico local!
