Need help in the Shenandoah!
    #11261189 - 10/16/09 04:41 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat:
We found these in a largely oak woods, shady, growing on the ground, usually under some leaves.

Gills:
I can't see that they have gills at all!

Stem:
Stem seems to be short or sometimes non-existant,solid, fairly thick.

Cap:
Inch to 2 inch Diameter, white, firm, sort of wavy or rumpled.

Spore print color:
Can't see where the spores would come from?

Bruising:
Seems to turn a little pinkish from the white when bruised.

Other information:
Smells like a white button mushroom.  We found them growing in ones and twos on the ground in a fairly wide area (couple hundred yards) then they seemed to peter out as the woods thinned.

Please cut one in half and take photos of the inside of the mushroom.

Were these growing underneath the ground, above the ground, or partially submerged?

They were growing a just a little submerged in the ground, usually under some leaves.  Thanks for looking! Mike

Wow, think you got it!  I did an image search on Entoloma abortivum and found some pics that look spot on to what we found.  Thanks so much for your help!
