Oops, backed over my neighbors mailbox last night

How embarrassing. I was going out to pick up some more CD-R's and a little beer and realized I forgot my cell phone. Since I live in a cul-de-sac there's almost no traffic except the people that live on the street so I decided to just back up to my driveway which was 40 feet behind me.
I backed up about 5 feet and heard a CRUUUNCH (better than a YELP I guess). I ended up knocking the mailbox and paper box off the pole and crushing the mailbox under the back tire. Fortunately the paper box wasn't fucked up since it's thicker steel and I have no idea where I'd get one of those.
And here's the kicker. They just moved here from Colorado last week. 1 week here and they already have people running over their shit. The lady was cool about it though so that's a load off my mind.
So off to Lowes I go. I'm going to get them a new mailbox and sand down and repaint the paper box since it's a bit rusty and the paint was in bad shape. Also I'm going to put their address number and name on it since they hadn't gotten around to doing that yet.
Oh well, I guess there are worse ways to meet new neighbors.

I basically just avoided my neighbors for at least a year or so.
But then I locked myself out of the house so
They told me I should get one of those key rock things.

I didn't even think twice about it. And if I hadn't have told them, I would have had to drive past that mail box every day for god knows how long and think about how dishonest I was every time I saw it.
I figure it's much easier just to replace the damn thing. And I figured I'd sand it down, paint it and put new numbers and letters on it as sort of an apology.
Although I must have inhaled enough black paint dust from sanding it last night to take at least a few weeks off my life. I was blowing black snot out of my nose all night long.
Might have been a good idea to wear a mask.

I didn't realize how bad it was because it was kind of dark in the garage. I went to go blow my nose and it was like I had snorted black coke. Turned on the other garage lights and a flood light and you could see the shit in the air like a heavy gray haze.
It was crazy though, as I was sanding I kept on seeing outlines of names of the previous home owners appearing. Kinda creepy in a dimly lit garage. It's the kind of crap those "Ghost Hunter" assholes would go apeshit over.

Ya, that's why I brought that up. I didn't care for that part of the episode but the rest was pretty damn funny.

I did that to the side of a garage here in Reno at an apartment complex. Dude called the police and everything, was freaking out. The police didn't show up and was like "talk to his Insurance company, you told us he gave the information to you."
You got lucky.

True, i know a few people that would have just bolted, hoped no one saw and never mentioned it again.
Good job.
-------------------- God takes those closest to us, because it makes him feel better about himself. He is a very vengeful God. He's all pissed off about something we did thousands of years ago. He just can't get over it, so he doesn't care who he takes. Children, puppies, it don't matter to him, so long as it makes us sad. Why does God give us anything? Look at it this way: if you want to make a baby cry, first you give it a lollipop. Then you take it away. If you never give it a lollipop to begin with, it would have nothin' to cry about. That's like God, who gives us life and love and help just so that he can tear it all away and make us cry, so he can drink the sweet milk of our tears. You see, it's our tears, Stan, that give God his great power.

Fuck, paint dries SO SLOWLY in 45 degree weather. I'm about to take a heat gun to this sumbitch. I sprayed it at like 1:45 and it's almost 4pm now.

Meh, I don't really see it as being a big deal. Doing the right thing is always the way to go.
Hell just a few minutes ago a chased a dog down in my car for 10 minutes around the neighborhood because I thought it was the one on a missing dog poster that was up at the end of the street.
Turns out it wasn't. But the lady was very appreciative. Some asshole around here has a ton of beagles that get out of the yard all the time and she says that she's gotten probably 2 dozen calls from people spotting those damn dogs thinking they were the one she's missing.
Makes me sad.

Oh and the mailbox only cost me $15, but the damn letters are probably going to cost twice that unless I can find a place around here that sells individual 2-3" white vinyl letters and numbers instead of those damn multi packs for like $5.99 a pack that I'll have to buy 4-5 of to have enough.

Just paint it on there and cover with lacquer or something.

It'll be unique.
