more Q's about grow tubes and plastic
    #11258642 - 10/16/09 11:09 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

ok so i experimented on the tubes i made and have come to the conclusion that leaving the plastic on is better. my next experiment will involve dunk and no dunk with plastic.

soooo my question is what about the logs i removed the plastic from.
my proposal is this and i want to get as much input on this as i can and asap cuz i got a small window to do it.

take the logs without plastic crumble them up nice and fluffy and do a new bag/bags with them you know use them like spawn but in a way higher spawn rate oh lets say 10 spawn to one bulk "straw/coco".

i figure the extra moisture in the new sub added to the high spawn rate = quicker recovery rate + moisture increase.

my next question is if i do this in the next day or 2 i would like to dunk and i just have not heard of this rout and am wondering if i should dunk after recovery " which i think is best " or during recovery a day or 2 into growth.

i know this is probably a little out there but i have a large # of logs i would like to get to fruit with monster shrooms like the last plastic covered log. and i bet i can get more with a dunk.

thanks for the help in advance and lesson learned about removing the plastic.

What's the substrate, species, and spawn material?

Not all species/strains will pin through holes in plastic tubing.  Most will pin under the plastic if you don't remove it.

Dude, you are like 1 week ahead of me.. lol. I was just contemplating dunk plastic/on plastic off. I was thinking of opening the ends up, and draining it that way.

I would dunk after recovery, right before going back into fruiting.. but if your new sub has the right water in it, and your keeping the plastic on.. I would choose no dunk...?

It seemed like my Pearl log just randomly pinned under the plastic, while my Pink log only pinned at every hole.

sub = straw and coco =new
sub-old= straw and coco and hpoo= that will be the make up of the logs as spawn.

original spawn = 1/3 Millet 2/3 sunflower seed

it is a plu- oyster and i am starting to wonder if my id in the wild might be off as i have had people say its a king?

it is doing fine or should i say way better in the bag

but i do see pins near no hole.my solution to this is to try to score bag over them if i can

seems to be 1/2 and 1/2 hit the holes .

That's P ostreatus, not king. It could benefit from lower temperatures and possibly more lighting, but your air exchange looks good.

The problem with dunking straw logs is they often break when you lift them out, thus causing more harm than the soak does good.  If you can build some sort of cradle to hold the logs intact, you might get a better second flush by soaking.

update.......

well stuffing the logs back into the new bags was a real big pain in the ass. boy i wish i had never removed them. it made a big ass mess.

any way sense i had a big mess i decided to put 2 of the trays i had in fruiting into bags so i crumbled them. we will see. i also have the 4 logs dunking 1 of which was left in the bag to Begin with. the other 3 are re bag logs.

this dunking in the bag should keep them from falling apart. i hope

as fare as line up i have 4 logs at 4 days old and i made 4 more yesterday

you can see my tek video here
http://www.justin.tv/ratpackcolorado
i dont say much well i say nothing but vedio is good you can see most everything i do.

and will be doing g2g tonight for the next expansion.

i am putting the next fruit at a week away "2nd flush" and new 1st flush in 2 weeks.

some were in between i hope the others recover soon so i can dunk them.

will keep you posted

as i also have 7 myco bags ruining in an experiment i did with bulk sub pasteurization in water instead of steaming.

i guess i might be able to uncross my finger now as they seem stuck there. and i think keeping them crossed for another month might cause some sort of deformity.

till later

Right after recovery - does this mean right after it's finished it's first flush, like right after I've harvested it clean, or does this mean after letting it sit a week or for however long before I anticipate it's ready to start pinning again? On that note, what's a healthy time between first and 2nd flush? Thanks!!
