so I guess I wont need to send mom some ganoderma tsugae or oregonense after all.  She was asking about these weird mushrooms 'that were so hard she had to kick them over in the past'  DOH!

AWESOME FIND!!! There's gotta be rotten wood buried in the ground. I had some straight Lin Xhi tea not too long ago, it verrrry bitter. You can find recipes on this site. I would recommend you add amendments to sweeten your tea out some though. They look really mature too.

I usually drink it raw, I like bitters  (big IPA fan)  but yeah there's good spore matter on these. nothing like the stuff I find in oregon tho  btw these were found in Missouri (misery)

however if you are a wussy I do suggest a rasberry zinger tea as it has Vit C in it already ... ends up tasting like juice =]

it could be that it absorbed the water from you washing it off as they are known to do, then they excreted the water with some mushroomy components. its best never to wash mushrooms but to brush them off rinse them really lightly.

i could be wrong but seems like it to me.

Im not going to be drinking anything from these as it is, the lawn has been treated with weed'n'feed and Im not down for drinking chem tea.  However if you wanna see some way cooler, nice looking ganoderma I suggest looking at my gallery. lots of big reishi that aren't ground growers...all off of trees/stumps/blow-down timber

There's a Ganoderma applanatum in a park in Seattle that is about the same size. Too bad its about 40 feet up the tree though.

Tell me where it is, and I'll get it for you .Nah, j/k I would love to find some reishi even half that size. Talk about some good genetics ... And I agree with Shroomanizer, I wouldn't know where to begin either, unless I had some silica.

There are a lot of fungi which love it up there. I hope you find more like them in the future. Maybe you might ought consider cultivation of Ganoderma as well; just my two cents though.

I start with a BIG ole knife mostly, I usually end up with blisteredhands a few hours later and several gallon bagfuls...but that was ancient, I notice my monster reishi finds have something similar to tree rings, as they hung in trees for many season till
I popped them down from up high (trade secret)  when I go back home to the PNW I'll be starting a farm, meds/edibles

Awesome. If you need a free farm hand/laborer, I can guess you know where to look.
