Fruiting chamber set up????
    #1125643 - 12/09/02 04:34 PM (21 years, 3 days ago)

I am trying to come up with an ideal fruiting chamber that can be checked every few days. As access will be at a remote location. Something ideal for about 20 cakes. I was thinking of using perlite in a large cooler with a drip shield. A cool mist humidifier pumping in from the side and above the drip shield and vent on the other side. Would this set up be sufficient? Or should I just go with perlite in separate containers. Once again I will only get to fan the perlite only setup every other day? Also, I am pretty new at this and have read almost everything on this site. Any help is much appreciated!!! I will not be able to respond back until the morning. Thanks in advance!

This is what I would recommend....

Realistically you should use two of the biggest rubber maid containers instead of one large cooler. Depends on how well your air exchange is with that many cakes. I would stack two containers with water and an aquarium heater between them for heat. Air flow I would hook up two computer fans with filters hot glued on each side hooked up to a 12V Dc adapter hooked up to a cheap digital timer. You should be ok using perlite by itself on the bottom of the fruiting chamber. If you really want to use a humidifier make sure you have a way of blocking direct blowing on your cakes. I'd also recommend looking into casing instead of so many cakes.
