Mad Season Grow Bag
    #11254797 - 10/15/09 05:15 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I have two Mad Season grow bags that were inoculated on the 9th of this month. So far I have not seen any growth in the bags. I ordered the syringe from Sporeworks(Treasure Coast strain). The bags are sitting in my closet and during the day the temp is 75 degrees and during the night maybe down to 65 degrees. I washed my hands real good, covered my face, and wiped the bag and syringe with alcohol when I inoculated the bags. I did not flame sterilize the needle, but the needle came sealed and I did not touch it or put it in contact with anything, and like i said i also wiped it down good with alcohol.

Do you think I just need to give them more time?

Let It Be...

did you inject into the middle of the substrait, or between the sub and the bag?

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Hey jc, did you shoot the solution in the center of the bag?  If so, It may take a little while for the myc to make it outward enough for you to see it.

I think The Mad Season people don't give the best instructions with their bags.  They ship them very compressed and it's always a good idea to inflate them a bit and loosen the grains before inoculating.  Also, you should shoot the spore solution on top of the grains so you can see germination immediately.  If you give the bag a good shake at 25% colonization, then the bag should finish within a week.  I've had Mad Season bags fully colonized in under 2 weeks like this.

It's been less than a week. If you only injected straight into the bag, than it could take up to two weeks to see any growth. My bags took 5 weeks in total to be fully colonized. I forget what link it is, but I remember reading that you shouldn't touch the bags not even to inspect. Noc the bags up, put it in a box with the filter patch out, and stick it in a dark closet.

Just leave the bags alone!

When I first got the bags I mashed them both a bit to make them softer like a bag of soil.  I was gentle though. I didn't mash the grains or anything. Each bag then got 1-1.5cc of spore solution. Some onto the left side, top of the middle, and right side of injection site for each bag. I guess I'll give it a few weeks and see what happens. I haven't handled the bad. There on a shelf in the closet and it's easy to check without physically touching the bags.
