Where's The Myc.?
    #11254502 - 10/15/09 06:28 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Okay this is starting to frustrate the hell out of me. I have 12 pf jars that were started in three differant cycles. The first 2 jars have been 2 wks. The next batch were 5 jars it's been 1 1/2 wk. The third batch also 5 jars 1 1/2 week. I followed the pf tek to the tee and still NO SIGNS OF MYC. I used a differant strain on each batch. The strains are from Sporeworks. I'm also using masking tape over the 4 holes in the lids. Any suggestions?

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Thats why take off the tape

Does it say in the PF tek to cover the holes with masking tape??

im pretty sure masking tape does not allow for GE so in a sealed jar the myc cant grow

actualy it does. In the new pf tek version... lol

I don't know if this mistake has been made by anyone other than me. The first jars I made, I used RTV silicone around the injection point, which is great! However, I used a larger than normal layer of dry verm, which in conjunction with the silicone, prohibited me from reaching the substrate. The majority of my jars didn't show any sings of mycelium growth, while others colonized as usual. One of the jars showing no signs randomly starting growing weeks after inoculation and showed signs of rapid growth.

I guess what I'm saying is, did you needle made it to your substrate?

Did you shake the syringe? Did you steralize in between jars? Where did you put the inoculated jars while waiting for colonization?

Yeah the jars were cooled before innoc. And the needle made it to the substrate. I watched the spore solution run down the side of the jar. 1 cc per hole. I took the tape off the holes, should I cover the lids with foil?

The foil is to keep condensating water when sterilizing from entering the jars. So ya go ahead and take it off.
