Blending colonized grains
    #11253757 - 10/15/09 04:44 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Anyone ever done this?
Theoretically, this would increase the exposure of the grains to the mycelium, since unblended grains are just covered in myc on the outside, and myc can't chew on the juicy nutrients inside the grain.

MYC does actually penetrate the grain and gets nutrients from the entire grain.

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

I imagine that wouldn't be a good idea. Don't you soak grains so the moisture can get locked inside them, so when the jar is colonizing it can get it out. Am I off base on this?

Well, I blended some colonized grain and let it recolonize. It was done in an unsterile environment, so, naturally, the colonized jar has a few tiny contam spots on it. I guess that concludes the experiment

Maybe I'll fruit it invitro or something... Can myc kill a contam if all substrate is fully colonized?

If the grains were blended it seems like the jars/bags would be too dense to fully colonize.
