My rant about the search function

I just drank me a 40 and am feeling froggy so I thought I'd rant aboout all the people whose first reply to a question is "use the search function" well I've been here a long time, I've had an account since 06 and lurked here since 03 and I can remember a time when if you asked a question it actually got answered, I mean imagine that, someone would actually answer your question when you asked, so just to give you an example of how things worked heres a quote from roadkill's first success with a casing

"I just havested my first flush from my first casing.

I'd like to thank Anno for his help....Thanks for answering my questions!!!

204.7 grams wet ....off my first flush.....not too bad....eh ?

The casing was small....i used a plastic Roasted Chicken container.

and I know for a fact if you go back and look at the original posts by many of the folks here whose opinions we hold so dear you'll see that they asked many questions and were not told to "use the search function" like they were idiots. So in conclusion of my rant the next time you see someone new ask a seemingly stupid question that's been answered a million times maybe just try answering the question as best you know how I'm sure it'll be appreciated.

i agree with ya. you shouldn't be scared to ask a question. i think it's become kind of a trend to be a dick to people and say "see that box in the upper right hand corner? USE IT!" thats just as annoying if you ask me:shrug:

but i can see where commonly asked questions can get on people's nerves and flood the message boards.

Oh I do agree on the fact that some questions seem to pop up way to much, What is annoying is that it seems like alot of reply's are straight meant to make people feel stupid when that's not what this site used to be about, it used to be about helping people out and making people feel comfortable asking the questions to begin with, I don't answer alot of questions myself, but that's because I just don't have the answers, I sure as hell dont act like a dick and point to the search and act like they're dumb as fuck for not looking in the first place, I use the search all the time and get frustrated facing 100 pages of non relevant results, wasting an hour of my time, so I can imagine how someone new feels

The search function is there for a reason.  Any question that you may have felt has been asked before, should be searched before creating a thread -- it's not unreasonable, and it does save clutter & repitition.

Some people are overly-mean.  Well, that's the human condition - GL changing it.

Hmm.
When you first make a topic does it show similar topics at all?
If not, something like that should be implemented so people can look and see if their question has already been answered.

ya, when i first joined there was something like that...it doesn't do that for me anymore though. i dont know if its just for new people or what but it was a good feature.

I wasn't bitching about the search not working per say, just the attitude the has been existing lately, and I know it's just the human condition and it aint never gonna change but it sure as hell didn't used to be that way!
