so today the farmer must have spotted me , but out of nowhere he rode up on horse back...my being an avid rifleman myself noticed the nice 30-30 on his saddle. he asked what i was doing on his property. and without hesitation came out the most beautiful bunch of lies ive ever had to slap together in under that much pressure...but i one time noticed while exiting the field a few black gentleman fishing a private pond in the field...and from previous hunts i knew most of the farmers wrk force was black, so i simply said i had talk to a black gentleman one weekend while hunting, and explained that i was a local college mycology student looking for a certain species for extra credit...then i whipped the national autobahn field guide and showed him the "x" next to the picture of the cube, telling him that they grow in the area and are dangerous to livestock, but that also a small research team im on are doing research on this type of mushroom, and there fore you are only taking samples for reasearch....i told him i spoke to the black gentleman and swore that i would never damage any part of his property, nor would i bring in liter...i said the only way you'll know i was here is from the footsteps i leave behind...he was so happy that i was removing "toxic" mushrooms from his property free of charge and that he was helping me with my ...uhm mycology finale  ...they dont call me Devious for nothing....way to think on my toes

nice excuse! I had a somewhat similar situation a little while back. Me and my friends were at our smoke spot in a x-mas tree patch when a truck roles on up. He gets out and yells: "what are you kids doing here?" we said we were just leaving and slowly headed towards my friends pickup, and he goes into his pickup and pulls out a shotgun and yells to get the fuck away from the truck. So we put our hand up and he made us pick up some random liter from times past. We also had to write our names down, hard to lie because my friend had his license and he called his dad a couple days later. Btw we were fucking ripped, just gone done with a decent smoke session. Funny know but scary then, that's my story.

Definitely thinking on your toes there.
I've used the excuse that I was documenting all species in my area for a mycology club. They became interested about the mushrooms (edibles) so much that they actually found actives for me. I showed up and they said come here and look at these have you got them yet low and behold Gym Luteus with bluing pins. I said nope thank you and I'll do some microscopy.I still go there every year with no problems and it's heavily posted land

That is awesome dude. I am very impressed. I used to have an absolute honeyhole outside of the city I live in. Every time it rained they cubes would sprout everywhere. Now a bunch of much younger kids found it and fucked it up. Last time I collected there, I returned to my truck with a note on my windshield.
"I know what all of you have been doing out here. I have your license plate number. Come on my land again and see what happens"

for one, he told me he didnt mind me on his property as long as i didnt fuck with the cows, 2 he gave me a a hand written note signed giving me and anyone in my company permission to be on his land...i never spread bad information about mushrooms, Cubes are poisonous, just in the best way possible. nor did i blame the guy, he told me he has over 20 employees and almost all of them and their family come all the time to fish his lake. he was glad that i was there to remove them free of charge...i also showed him PLENTY of edibles that he could harvest himself. we talked for a good 45 minutes about the useful uses of the right and wrong fungus.

In this particular situation it turned out okay. But it could have gone poorly. You could have gotten someone else in trouble and they could have potentially lost their job. And you told him cubes are dangerous for livestock. This is ridiculous, and while this probably wouldn't happen, it could have led him to have his employees remove the fungus for no reason, taking away the reason why you were there in the first place.

like you said it could have went wrong, but instead he said if he ever comes across any that he's unsure of, or know them as cubes( cause i picked about 5 to show him what they look like) he will removed them and put them in a brown paper bag in an undisclosed spot, for me to pick them up..for "research" haha...i only live 6 miles from the field and im there hunting at least twice a week

I live in the city and have no access to cow fields but will remember your example and come up with a variation that works for my situation.
Did you secure permission either direct or implied to be able to search this ranchers fields indefinitely because he thinks your removing dangerous mushrooms and so helping his cows?
