Question on Casings
    #1124838 - 12/09/02 02:28 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I was wondering what is your typical casing technique. I usually use 4 crumbled cakes of substrate. Thats 1/2 pint jars. I use a bottom layer of vermiculite and then case with coco coir. I'm wondering about cutting cakes up like cucumber circles. Any luck with this? I'm thinking about trying it to see something different. Any comments, gracias.

i've heard of people using a cheese grater to finely grate the cakes to give u more innoc points and also a blender for the same reason more innoc points. bottom layer of verm isn't needed really unless u want to catch water. try crumble and casing to innoc a bulk substr8.

It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

I haven't messed around with bulk substrates yet. I haven't attained a pressure cooker yet, and this prevents me from being able to sterilize bulk substrates. I know I can get one cheap, but I'm a brat, and will buy a nice one eventually.

I agree that you can't use grains without a PC, but you can, as socrate's mentioned, grate brf into pasteurized poo or straw, or a poo/straw combo, no PC needed :smirk:
