Merkins: do you drink PBR?

Quote:
Pabst's success actually comes from years before the recession.
Pabst managed to pull of a strangely effective word-of-mouth campaign that made the long-declining brand an "ironic downscale chic choice for bike messengers and other younger drinkers who viewed the beer as a statement of non-mainstream taste," reports Crain's.
Let's call a spade a spade: Those "non-mainstream," "younger drinkers" are hipsters.
Usually found smoking European cigarettes and/or cloves, hipsters are known for their despise of anything "mainstream" and their fondness for irony. They listen to bands that no one has ever heard of and start fashion trends that are cool because of their "uncoolness", e.g., trucker hats or vintage plaid shirts.
This is where Pabst Blue Ribbon comes in.
"It's an anti-establishment badge," said a major market wholesaler. "It seems to play to the retro, nonconformist crowd pretty well."
http://www.nbclosangeles.com/around-town/food-drink/Pabst-Blue-Ribbon-Now-More-Popular-Than-Ever-Sorry-Hipsters-59575967.html
Basically, they got a few people to start promoting it on the basis of being an un-majority beer.
Hipsters, being sheep who have nothing in common but hating the majority, signed up for it.
By doing so, they became the sheepest of the sheep, the consumer who buys a product to create an identity.
That's like hoping to make yourself a social star by buying Dockers, an iPod and a Chevy Volt.
There is no way to be a bigger tool.
Hipsters, you have been pwnt. You should not vote or have political opinions. You should in fact be assigned manual labor tasks and no one should ever listen to you again, as you hipsters have proven you are incompetent.

seems that conforming to the non-conformity movements is becoming popular in several subcultures

i drink pbr because it's $13 for a case and i like it better than busch. it's my go-to unless i'm looking to splurge and experience something new and inventive via microbrews.
the fact that i might also listen to bands no one has heard of, and my favorite shirt might possibly be a green and blue plaid from my father's high school closet... well that's neither here nor there.
just a coincidence.

I don't know how to respond to this. I began drinking PBR a few years ago because it was suggested by a friend because it was cheap and good to drink on hot summer days and becamse fond of it. I continue to drink it because I can no longer afford Newcastle and I actually prefer it over other slightly higher priced beers. That article is bullshit.

I drank one when I was about 4 because it's what my dad drank and he would allow us to have a little wine and beer, I also drank gasoline because he had it in a PBR bottle using it to prime the carb on his truck, I downed about half the bottle before I realized what it was
I've never had a PBR since, I've wanted to try one but I cant find it around my area which is odd since it's a small town in georgia

It was all over Atlanta when I lived there, I'm surprised it doesn't make it outside of the city.

Miller high life, busch, and keystone are all around the same price as PBR
Cheap beer does not have to equal PBR

I'm sure it's still all over the state but here in Podunk there's only 2 places that sell beer and neither of them carry PBR, I'd have to drive 20 miles for the next closest place and hope they carry it
