I am looking to store some boomers for a later date and am wondering if anyone has had luck finding Oxygen absorbers from local stores. I saw some on ebay but would much rather find a place like the devil walmart that may carry them. Any thoughts on this would be great

Look into:
Silica Gel Packs / Desiccant Bags
Get the kind that changes color and can be reused by placing in an oven.
Ebay has them as well as local stores.

Oxygen absorbers are different than desiccant packs. desiccant removes water. I am needing to remove the Oxygen.
As far as why not remove the air vs just oxygen, the cost factor. Typically you can get a small packet for $.50-.70 each vs buying vacuum sealing canisters.

Go ask around and see if you can find some dry ice. Place a bit in the bottom of a jar with a paper towel over it, and the shroomies on top. once the dry ice is done sublimating, tighten up the cap a bit, but not all the way. Once it gets fairly close to room temp you should be able to tighten it the rest of the way.
Don't use much, you're trying to force out the o2, not make a dry-ice-shroom-bomb.

Yeah I know about dry ice and all, just thinking an oxygen absorber > dry ice. If that weren't the case we wouldn't see oxygen absorbers inside beef jerky packages.
Looks like the best route will be online. Many people on ebay have 100 packs for $7-$8.

I'm not really sure about this beef-jerky o2 absorber. Sounds like a desiccant to me.
What is the stuff made of? is it just something that is extremely prone to oxidizing (like all the metals on the left column of the periodic table)?

MOST beef jerky contains an oxy absorber http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen_absorber it has iron in it and it uses oxygen to rust the iron flakes
thereby absorbing the oxygen in the process
vinegar and baking soda make CO2 which can be "poured" into jars as well...

Again this isn't a post looking for desiccant answers. I am looking for oxygen absorbers sold in stores. It appears no one uses them around here though.
