I am in the netherlands (The Hague). In this densely populated country, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of open pasture land.(ok, I went out today and found several fields) The pastures I have come across all seem to be surrounded by ditches full of water. How do you get on to the fields without being completely obvious. By obvious, I mean, I don't want to get my pole vaulting pole and cross the ditches the old fashioned way.

Also, they are all small fields. Its difficult to get on them without being conspicuous.(There are cyclists everywhere!!)

What is the etiquette as far as hunting goes. I've never seen anyone in the fields. Also, you are hunting on pasture land right? All of the pasture land I have seen has been private.(not like the UK where you can wander onto the fields.)

Anyway, I'm headed out on a hunt now. I have a fly agaric spot that is literally exploding, but I'm really after libs. So, is there a Dutchmen(or women) out there that can help me? or anyone else for that matter.
thanks!

I'm near Nijmegen right now so I'll try to find something tomorrow too. I'm quite in the country side and many cows around so I'll have some walks. The first to find one.. will have to share them! I'll be glad to do it. Good luck!!

There have already been some frosts around but i hope we might still have some chances!

Nice finds kaal-kopje,

I just referred the user libs to this post, he has some mushrooms that he thinks were P. strictipes because of the extremely expanded pileus, your image here is a good example of how they can become almost plane!

Your welcome, I knew I'd seen images of specimens like that somewhere and thought it was in one of Korak's or Knarkkorven's posts, comparing images from these three users shows the great diversity in macroscopic form of this mushroom!
inski..

Yes they can get very plain with age and the right weather.

I even find them without umbo whatsoever and workman identified these as ps. semilanceata and not strictipes.
I find it is almost impossible to make a ps. strictipes identification without doing proper microscopy.

Nice finds and pictures kaal-kopje,

I agree, it is an extremely variable species, it takes many collections and observations of a species before the full range of macroscopic forms can be realized, especially in the genus Psilocybe.

Those are some great diagnostic images, thanks for sharing, I'll have to get down to the south island to find me some New Zealand Liberty caps one season!
inski.

Very nice pics kaal-kopje! All quality shots... So these are from the UK then?... Here in NS Canada our season just ended due to snow after Halloween  I've been logging information about weather and habitats this season, and trying to meet as many Lib Hunters as I can. I'm currently surviving off the photos of others and these made my day... (Shout out to Dicky21 for pointing me to this Thread!) The diversity of "Looks", from location to location, has really caught my attention this year (Most of my finds are logged at http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11159473) I've only recently become aware of Psilocybe Strictipes... and was mentioning that some of our libs are not typical in appearance... I was trying to see if I had possibly been finding Strictipes, but couldn't find a decent shot to depict the "Untypical" Libs I was describing! ...Voila!... Your layout of varying styles of Lib is magnificent!.. The ones lacking a "Nipple" and with "round" broader caps are the type I generally come across. I'll definitely use this page as a reference when trying to explain them! Good Luck Hunting

I was gonna say the Netherlands and then I got confused when I read another post lol.... at one point and time most of the good info I found was from hunters in the Netherlands, unfortunately I lost contact with most of them when I went "away".... Thanks for the other links as well... very nice! as a fellow lib hunter I'm always interested in anything about them!... Enjoy your season and Good Luck Hunting!
