Substrate transfer possiblities.

I currently have 4 PF jars which are growing healthily at a slow to moderate speed on BRF and vermiculite (temp ~70F). However I was wondering if when the jars are fully colonized would it be possible to transfer the cultures into a grain bag instead of fruiting from jars. I am looking to increase my yield and do not mind investing further time and effort to do so. Does anyone have any experience of PF to grain transfers? Would it be best to use grain or could I use a greater quantity of BRF-Vermiculite substrate in a bag to maximise my eventual fruits? Any advice would be gratefully received.

I would just fruit as is for now or you could crumble them and case them. If you wanted to do grain I would have just done it from the beginning, do you have a Pressure Cooker?. Of course its possible to transfer a chunk of BRF cake to some grains but I would just fruit them as is

I was put off by the idea of fruiting from the jars because unfortunately the only jars available for me to use were the non-straight sided variety so the surface area of tops could be restrictive. Casing could be a could be a good solution for this, but I was looking to increase my overall yield as only 4 of my 8 jars have shown growth. On future projects I will probably use some kind of reptile heating mat to speed up colonization but for now I have to make do with what I have. Thanks for your response

I would not use a reptile heating for incubation. Also if you want increased yield start with grains then do a monotub or spawn to bulk. Since you used tapered jars you will have to crumble them then I would case them with 50/50+.
Do you have a Pressure Cooker and glove box??

I have a pressure cooker but no glove box. I believe I need to construct one soon if I am going to go ahead with a transfer. I could transfer one jar into a bulk of BRF substrate and fruit the rest and compare results.

You can make a slurry from one of those jars and inoculate grain, more jars, etc. It is very easy. Here's the tek, which goes straight to bulk, but you can use it for any preapred medium: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10648149#10648149

You are talking about transferring A BRF chunk of your cakes into more BRF ?????.

Thanks for the tek. My aim is just to increase volume of mycelium and therefore yield of fruits. Would it be better to transfer onto rye rather than brf? iI'm just trying to establish the best substrate for a higher yield.

Well how are you going to transfer it to another PF jar when the dry verm barrier will be in the way the stuff it's getting the transfer to has to be sterile
If you have any spore solution left just follow a good rye tek and start with grains and just case the cakes. or make a myc syringe
OR
Pasteurize a bunch of cow or horse poo mixed with verm and gypsum and crumble the BRF jars into cake pans with the Pasteurized mixture you made foil it let it colonize then case it with 50/50+ and then fruit

Better option: Fruit cakes as cakes. Collect spores. Make grain bags, grain jars, grain LC with your PC.
-------------------- You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?
