Meditation help?

Hello all at shroomery. As you my be able to tell from my info, I only signed up today and this is infact my first post. I have a question about meditation. Bascially, I have been meditating on and off for about 2 1/4 years now (going through periods of meditating up to about 5 times a week, then maybe gaps of 3 weeks or so without meditation) and i'm not entirely sure im doing it right. I have been tought the basics... i.e. listen to your breath, concentrate on clearing your mind etc. But I was wondering what interesting techniques there are out there and what I should be aiming to achieve. I have tried looking into this before but all my searches end up with lots of complicated jargon which I don't understand. I'm very into the idea of exploring my own mind and getting a deeper insight into the human psyche, hence me finding this website. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

The highest meditation, which includes all other meditations, is meditation on the Self, as anything your Self meditates (concentrates) on, your Self is there to meditate on it, so meditation on that Self is the greatest meditation
Self Realization is what meditation is about, not fantasizing about visualization or breahe control, but to Realize the Self, to realize your unity with the Infinite
What is the nature of Self? What does Self consist of? What says 'I' in this body?
Who am i?
Of course these questions can seem too intricate & subtle to probe into, but thats why they are to be asked in meditation
Everything you ever do say acheive or lose, you are there, so who are you? What do 'I' actually consist of?
No assumption, no imagination, no beleif, no thought
Who am i?
Thoughts feeling sensations arise, i am Aware of them
Who am i?
This is meditation

Try using mantra. Repeat first aloud, and then in your head the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum". Allow your breath and mantra to dance around each other, and eventually incorporate the beat of your heart. Remember if your trying too hard your on the wrong path. Being doesn't take any effort.

Perhaps mantras might be better advice for a begginner
but im sure you said youd been meditting for 3 years or something?
Anyway, mantra repetition can be good...eventually the mantra will repeat by itself, then it will become silent returning to the source of the mantra, resulting in Self realization
One pointedness of mind is what is required, whether it be on mantra, breathe, or the Self to whom mantra & breathe appear

It is contemplation itself
Contemplation & Self Inquiry are one & the same

Wow, thanks for all the help. I have briefly looked into mantras before but never in depth. I will try these techniques, and Chroinc, you pose some very deep questions which i have often pondered before. Thanks so much for the help, you make me feel welcome as a newbie to shroomery XD

meditating on the Self is to keep the mind still by making it merge in its source
you are the source of your mind not anything external to you

This site is a great resource for meditation techniques if you haven't seen it before:

You could probably skip a lot of the beginner lessons.

Dont't know about techniques, tried several, but for me, doing anything during meditation, such as mantras e.t.c. is only distracting for.
Just sitting down and breath, not thinking about anything (about 10 minutes in) and when thoughts start to come back (30-40munutes in) then I stop my meditation.
Use? No use. Well there is a side effect, I get focused after meditation and get a will to do necessary things I need to do, for example I am usually too lazy to study and always find other things to do, but after meditation I find it easy and even interesting to sit down and do the work.
But lately I have noticed something: Meditation is preparation for tripping. For example when I trip I think like many others a lot about everything, and meditation helps me here, I can take a few deep breaths and just stop thinking for a while, which I consider being very useful especially if you are tripping alone, and get uncontrollable overwhelming thoughts.
Thought sometimes there are thoughts that need to be processed during a trip, then just taking a deep breath and stop thinking is not enough because they will just come back, hence you'll spend six hour taking deep breaths.
Then sitting down in meditation, and let thought thoughts flow without attachment is once again useful.
Hence in short, meditation is in my opinion a necessary tool for every shroomer.

i recommend you go the path of the shaman and pagan and ancient tai chi meditation forms.
shamanistic forms of meditation are by far the most extreme of meditation forms. if ur really wanting to get to know ur inner self. study up on shamanism. lots of thing shaving to do with inner totems, who we really are, the real reality, etc. I dont know what you believe but alot of shamanistic meditations and rituals are fairly dangerous let alone "forbidden" in sum religions and cultures, but if done right you can really get to know yourself better. your soul. your spirit. who you really are.. what really are made of.
tai chi is a very fluid like form of meditation, so when you trippin ballz or are high as fuck you will become one with the space around you better, and tai chi helps you to understand and learn about the energy in the space around you.

but the practices involved in this sort of thing were developed over a long, long time... or so it seems. i would never think of sitting down cross legged and focusing on my breath on my own, if you know what i mean.
what are some examples of shamanic meditation?

what are some examples of shamanic meditation?
alotof them have to do with the 5 senses, or communication with ur totem spirit.
an example tha ti practice alot that works is u take colored cards. like 20 of them or so. and u mix them up under a blanket. then u pic them up. and u meditate and sense the feelings and emotions u get from that card. and then u see what color it is, and u cont. to do this until u can recognize colors by emotions and feelings.
other examples are simple too, llike meditating on background noises. not loosing awareness of them. or take a path u walk daily, and the next time u walk it try to pay attention to the way everything is. all the detail. then meditate on it later on. see if u can recall everything visually in ur mind.
those are pretty basic but theres lots of other modern and ancient/old meditations.
as i was saying theres also totem spirits. which shamans and shamankas belived they have. basically every1 has a animal spirit that guides them on their journey through life and the spirit worlds. etc.

just search shamanism, and shamanic tribes around the world. get to know about their shaman rituals and rites and things they do in their culture. learn about herbs. all kinds of herbs u can learn about.
get out in nature. meditate on nature alot. do alot of stuff in nature. basically just live in nature. no electricity. no running watever. like a hermit in the woods. ive lived in a forest for 2 months once. same place. i just never felt like leaving. it was in the pnw too. yea.
anyways just research shamanism like crazy and ull start to figure it out, its very traditional and spiritual. itll really make u question reality and ur inner self and things.

I'd recommend pranayama techniques to enter a relaxed state and moving your consciousness in your heart while meditating...
Thanks for the topic
