i spend a lot of time in the woods 6 weeks ago i was finding a muscaria that where 5 to 7 inch tall and caps 3 to 7 inch and now 6 weeks later i am finding them 10 to 14 inch tall and caps 8 inch to over a foot wide and i was wondering if there would be a difference in the effects of them
ive read that earlier in the season they can be a little more potent and later in the season ive seen them the size of dinner plates too and quite impressive looking.as far as size,i think the effects shouldnt change much as long as their not too old..fresher the better and not as many bugs.
well, unfortunantly you cannot expect the same potentcy from all Aminita muscarias, I read long time ago that each mushroom varies in the amount of mucimol and Ibotenic Acid it contains, and i dont think it has anything to do with size, you want to have a much higher Mucimol ratio to ibotenic Acid, or you may end up throwing up or having some negative affects. In my experiences, i always dry them and i have never had any bad experiences, Tasty fresh though

From what I have read in the information posted for amanita muscaria (http://www.shroomery.org/6234/Amanita-Muscaria,) there is no study or proof that the potency varies from season to season, but it is of common opinion that they tend to be more potent in the beginning of the season.
