Uncased monotub, surface primordia
    #11241589 - 10/13/09 09:02 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

uncased pe monotub has primordia forming on the surface - white lumps- some as big as peas, a few as big as small grapes.  are these due to not enough fae?  sub is rye spawned to compost, 100% colonized 1 week ago.

thank you.

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

something else everyone can learn from this site is that everyone needs pics to give an honest decent opinion...its like telling your doctor on the phone that your ass itches and not telling him about that lump.he needs to see the lump, show them some pics

here are a few pics.  sorry they suck, i had to take em with my phone...

that brownish/orangish spot is myc piss.  it looks ready to pop and it should have by now, but so far just getting these small lumps.
a very thin layer of moist verm was sprinkled on top right after these pics.  should hold moisture a bit better.  i can only get to the tub once, maybe twice a week.

what's going on here?

you may have some mutants on your hands.

After a second look it looks like the lumps have little heads, like they're pins ready to explode.  but it may very well be mutation nation.

DId you check out the link I posted?

If I were you I would remove those mutations asap.. one of my last grows of OR began pinning with mutations almost exactly like those.. I had battled a case of cobweb with a few strong sprayings of pure peroxide and It began pinning the very next day.. In this case I believe the peroxide caused the mutated pins.. I picked all of them the very next day and scraped off a quarter inch of substrate off the entire surface with a clean tablespoon. I left it to recover for a day or two and then reinitiated fruiting conditions. This resulted in an amazing first flush with no mutations whatsoever... If you search for some threads on similar topics dealing with PE pin mutations almost all stated they had normal flushes after removing the muties.. I would do this asap if I were you, and would also consider scraping a lil bit off the surface.. Good luck!

yes, i checked out the link. that looks like a much more excessive case than i have.  there are only a few spots where these mutants have popped up for me.  but it has effected the entire flush or lack thereof.

interesting idea about scraping the surface.  did you case it at all after scraping?  it has to sit for a few more days, then all the mutants will be removed and a thin layer of substrate will be lightly scraped off the surface.  i hope this will help.  thanks!
