250 hps and cacti?
    #11239018 - 10/13/09 01:51 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

got 2 potted bridgesii cacti and am looking to harvest soon. they're both about 2 feet tall, so harverst should be interesting. i'm concerned with what i should do with the rooted stumps though. i'm in the south and our "winter" is approaching. not much cold weather, just cool, damp and void of sunlight. everyday is overcast and the temps fluctuate OFTEN. doesn't seem like a nurturing environment for cacti, right? i hear the bridgesii can be tempermental and am concerned with rott. was considering putting them under a 250 hps for the "cold" season. it would be dry and the temps would be slightly warm and fall to around 70 degrees. does this sound alrite? i'm guessing by the time the stumps throw off some new pups, the weather will have improved enough for me to bring em back outside. my only concern is that the light from a 250 is pretty weak and might make the new pups stunted and small. what do you guys think?

should i even put the stumps under a light while waiting for the new pups to come about? would a warm spot by a window suffice? i figure why waste the bulb life if i don't need to, ya know?

how should i go about doing this?
thanks in advance :sunny:

Bring them inside and put them next to a window. You should encourage them to go dormant during the cold season anyway. The HPS light isn't necessary.
