Ensuring security of a room
    #11199634 - 10/07/09 10:25 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

What are some simple ways to be able to tell if the security of a room has been compromised?

(assuming that the locking mechanism has already been unlocked and then again locked upon exit)

Wedge a matchbook, string, match, etc. into the doorjamb when you shut it.  You'll know if it's been opened.  You can also place something small behind the door which will be pushed against the wall when the door is opened.  Simply open the door the minimal amount to get in and see if the object is further away than your door opening pushed it.

Small piece of clear tape cut almost all the way through so it breaks when the door opens. I'd do the object in the door jam thing but I'm afraid some folks have the ninja skills to see it drop.

It's pretty hard to see a paper match drop 3-4 inches to the floor when most of it is on the inside of the room.  It's also even harder to see a little piece of string or the like drop those few inches near the floor.

The difference between the substances doesn't matter. This is a war on consciousness, on our right to the very essence of what we are. With no control over that, we have no need to speak of freedom or a free society. -fireseed

I find the whole "my drug should be legal but yours should be illegal" mindset disgusting and hypocritical. It's what George Bush and company do when they drink a cocktail and debate the best way to imprison marijuana users. -Diploid

Just sayin, some folks got skills.

And if they are gettin in that room under dubious circumstances, they may look for things wedged in the door jam. I know I would.

Then again, they may see tape too.

I think the object on the other side of the door is the best one.

Maybe a little flour on the door knob?

Install this puppy in your room http://www.tbotech.com/telespy-motion-sensor-phone.htm

you'll get a call as soon as the door opens...

"Psilocybin and psilocin are noteworthy in that their molecular structures are very similar to chemicals present in the human brain. Psilocin, for example, differs from the human neurotransmitter serotonin (designated 5-hydroxytryptamine) by only one hydroxy molecule. In this respect, the mushrooms are mirror images of the human brain."

Telespy looks cool, too bad it only lets you listen for 30 seconds.

This is a good solution:

"Motion is a program that monitors the video signal from one or more cameras and is able to detect if a significant part of the picture has changed; in other words, it can detect motion.

The program is written in C and is made for the Linux operating system. Motion is a command line based tool whose output can be either jpeg, ppm fies or mpeg video sequences. Motion is strictly command line driven and can run as a daemon with a rather small footprint.

Motion is the perfect tool for keeping an eye on your property, keeping only those images that are interesting. "

i have another question regarding a roommate's ignorance to the law, but that's for another thread.
