Okay hey hows everyone doing? me and my friend are planning on growing as much mushrooms as we can by January we have a 90 gallon fish tank that is pLexi glass and we are willing to drill holes in it, i posted before a few days ago and people recommend using a monotub system and was wondering if someone has a link with diagrams on what it should look like?? my friend said he wanted to use pint jars or half pints with brown rice and vermiculite ans such. is their any other better ways for a beginner to use instead of the brown rice??? all advice/ help is always appreciated. what is a good strain to get a meaty fruit we were planning on growing Mexican and golden mammoths and blue meanies
Thanks guys Super

Click the link in my signature labeled useful links with information then go to the monotub section and do some reading and go from there.

Grow some South Americans, Golden Teachers, Mazatapecs, or just about anything else, and use horse manure for girth.
You aren't limited to brown rice flour. You can use grains. Try rye. Or wheat. Or spelt. Or whatever wheat type grain you can find. Or wild bird seed.
Monotub tek.
Another monotub tek.

That would make a great fruiting chamber for a giant grain or brf casing, or a bunch of small casings in tupperware containers. Do you have a pressure cooker. Also why in the world would you want to hang a cake?

Grow them to stop drug dealers from going to jail and for the satisfaction of being self-sufficient.

i have pressure cooker and im not sure why to hang the cakes it was my buddys idea he thinks if we did it the cake would be able to produce more mushrooms and if we hang some we would be able to grow more? what do you guys reccomend for when your first starting to buy a spore print or syringe and then after first crop make our own prints or syringes and if you know what is a good site to buy bulk syringes or prints

start with syringue. CAkE are super damn easy and noob friendly. Grain a bit harder but ive seen a lot of noob going grain and monotub for their first grow and having succes, just follow a GOOD tek to the T and you should be alright.
And yes you will make you own spore after the first flush is done.

Cakes are simple, quick and easy. However if you're going for MAXIMUM harvest, go with the casing technique.

I put together a poor mans pod under $20.deep tub, air pump, tubing, fish tank air stones. Works great, and doubles as a night stand! Just can't get it warm till I pick up a heater The sponsors have great selections, I prefer Ralphsters selection but that's just a personal preference. Cakes are a piece of cake (pun noted) But I haven't had huge yields from them, seen casings have more/larger quantities, but I'm sure it all depends on many variables.

Do you use just jiffy mix or like 50/50 with verm ? Cause I been thinking about doing my first ever casing after 2 years of growing and was thinking about doing a 50/50 or a 100% verm layer..

That is really dependent on your start-up capital.
If you got the bones, I would suggest:
3 dozen wide mouth quart jars ($30) PC that will hold 7+ jars ($50-100, craigslist/ebay) 25 lbs rye berries ($20-25) 6 bricks of coir ($10-15) 3 70+ qt totes ($15-30) 1 bag of polyfill ($5) 1 3/8s drill ($5) 1 lb gypsum ($2-10) 1 bag verm ($10) 1-4 syringes ($10-15 ea., only get 1 if you are going to do LC) 1"-2" hole saw ($5-15, I use the ones for wood that are like a big flat drill bit) 3x daylight CFL's ($5 ea) 3x lamp kits ($5-10 ea) 1 power strip ($2-8)
for somewhere in the ballpark of $200, you can put out more than you and all your friends could eat in one sitting.
I strongly suggest buying the stuff fast, as they're not exactly fast to grow.

From the main page, click on 'mushroom cultivation'. There are many hours worth of reading.

I'd personally stay away from the Blue Meanies. Even though they are my wife's favorite for sentimental reasons (i.e. her first grow). They tend to grow fairly small, especially after the first flush.
Try Amazonians or Ecuadors. Those grow fairly large.
