Why are my hands so cold?

I mean seriously. Its ridiculous how could they get. Is it normal? How many of you guys get ice cold hands a lot of the time?
I remember reading somewhere that its a sign of poor circulation, also i notice my index fingers get even colder than my other ones sometimes.
Very obnoxious. Honestly I'm kind of used to it now, its been this way my entire life. Yoga helps, but they always get cold again afterwards.
I mean during the summer obviously they aren't cold, but...yeah its pretty annoying.

I know that a few folks in my family have "Raynaud's" syndrome, which is when the extremities get real cold (to the point of turning blue/black in one of my relatives). I don't know much about it. Good luck!

Are you a female? I know this is going to sound rediculous -- but I've always had the theory that some females have cold hands because their vagina is taking all the heat My X swore on her mother that her hands were always cold because her twat was always so warm.

I would think the opposite - since men's sexual organs sequester blood, it would make more sense that men's hands would get cold because of their junk.
As far as the original question goes....I'm in the same boat and it's kind of annoying because I'll go to shake someone's hand and I'll feel the heat of theirs and I know they feel the cold of mine.

anemia rates are higher in women for obvious reasons
maybe an iron supplement/some chicken livers might help?

I have cold hands too and I'm anemic. Also, try exercising more. Your veins will get bigger to allow more oxygen flow in the bloodstream and it'll be easier for your hands to warm up.

Hmmm...I don't see the connection between anemia and cold extremities...?
Either way, I eat a smoothie almost every day that contains a few cups worth of dark leafy greens which are chock full of iron. I also donate plasma occasionally and in order to donate your iron levels have to be within a certain range. Although this range could below what is needed for warm extremities, I'm always right in the middle.

Yeah, I am kind of tall. Sometimes my hands get purplish, they always end up warming up like when i sleep or expose them to adequate amounts of heat.
haha, basketball REALLY warms them up man, they're on fire after i play a good game of ball.
and about feeling weird when you shake someones warm hand with your icy cold one, i notice people don't seem to even care/pay attention to whether your hand is cold or not, a lot of people have cold hands.

Wow, my hands are actually warm right now, its incredible.
It might be the heater that is on a few feet from me, but i doubt it...it must be the ramen noodles i ate.

Here's one, do you smoke cigarettes? I notice my hands rarely get cold when I'm not smoking cigs.

Sometimes....but usually no. Man I used to be kind of a smoker, but I can't do it anymore. They always make me feel like shit. I'm just too sensitive to them.

It's sounds like Raynaud's syndrome as mentioned by some here, it is due to spasms of your arteries. Anemia wouldn't be thought to be related to Raynauds in terms of its cause. It's purely about warm blood being circulated adequately. Anemia would cause fatigue and malaise among other problems. When it occurs alone, it is a pretty benign thing. However if you have raynauds syndrome, as well as a rash (not necessarily when you have raynauds flare), as well as hardening of your skin on your hands, chronic indigestion from esophogeal dysmotility, and something called telangectasias or other systemic or concerning symptoms i would see a doctor. Likely this is benign in you, but it could be a sign of something called Scleroderma (CREST Syndrome). Other things could be included in a differential diagnosis thromboangiititis obliterans if you smoke cigarettes, that's where your hands turn cold and parts of it turn black/gangrenize and die. However that gets better immediately soon as you stop smoking. And progresses again if you start smoking again.

I've always had cold hands. They always get purple if it's cold outside too. It's been like that since middle school.
It's really weird, and sometimes embarrassing but what to do? I work outside so I wear gloves when I can, but it only helps to a point.

certain drugs called Calcium Channel blockers that have more effect on your arteries than your heart may help. Otherwise i'm not really sure, you may just have to live with it.
